Has anyone 'done' "Glorious August 12th" ?

This topic is so rarefied that I'd guess most of you don't have a clue what I'm talking about -

And what I'm talking about is the annual red grouse hunting season on the moors in Scotland - truly unique, upland hunting British style, for the 'money is no object' crowd.

I'm only aware because a few years back an opportunity to participate was wafted by me -and that fixated in the back of my mind. Then over the years I happened to visit the Sporting Department in Harrods of London a couple times, followed by visits to the upland rich English countryside, then I visited a couple of gun shops in England, and finally I saw a couple videos on YouTube.

Wow, as Monty Python would say 'now time for something different'.

Bill K,

I have some knowledge of the Aug 12th event and like you say it is for the very wealthy Brit sportsman. Although the Scots do have their own version of it, that the Scott estate owners participate in also. Actually both evens are quite nice, however I have never known it to be open to the general American hunting public. While in Scotland just after Vietnam, Mr Stewart was explaining the Scot version to us American lads as we participated at a shoot on his estate. From what I understand it's a closed type estate hunt for both the Brit and Scot wealthy sportsman, with the typical dinners and shooting evens both driven and walk up.

My understanding is the events are by invitation only.
all the best,
