Recently I had a conversation at a family gathering over drinks and the subject of my hunting came up. One of my ultra liberal nieces said I was raping the bird population.
Calmly I replied that bird hunters were convervationist. She went ballistic!
I proceeded to yell her the Pittman-Robertson Act and I got her interest.
I said your trail hikers, bird watchers and kayakers pay nothing while hunter pay for somewhere in the 90 percentile of the lands they use for free.
I told her about DU, Pheasants Forever, the Rough Grouse Society as well as the Rocky Mountain Elk Society as well as others.
She was somewhat blown away. I also said these groups support pollinators as well as habitat.
She was totally embarrassed and apologized.
The ignorance of some of the young liberals is amazing. They have an alligator mouth and a hummingbird ass.
I must admit I have nothing again the free users, but when this was raised a few years ago to extend it to campers, back packers, etc. REI and other groups went ballistic. Okay to tax us not them.

BWW,

Bob you make a good point, however these young people are being taught that hunting is bad and that they should have the right to use our State Game Lands for other activities such as hiking, Bike Riding, Snow Mobile Riding, and Horse Back Riding.
Of course they want to due all this without purchasing a Pa Hunting license. Unfortunately we have some liberal politicians in the PGC now, that have made some joint usage areas, where people without hunting licenses can ride bikes, snow mobile and basically interfere with what ever hunting happens to be going on in that designated area.
One cool October afternoon I was told by a man and lady to put my Grouse dog on a leash, as they walked thru an area where we were Grouse hunting, on the SGL. I have had several run ins with these nonhunting people on our SGL, We call the Game Commission each time it happens and report them. I doubt much if anything happens to them.

all the best,

Fortunately Idaho is a very conservative state and hunters are "normal"

PawleysJim,

Nothing more dangerous than a liberal with a gun, they seem to want to take away everyone else guns but retain their own. A good conservative is usually a conservationist, most of the time. I do think we are straying off subject however.

The point of the exercise - my original post - is that a national magazine aimed at a particular, high demographic with a well-earned reputation for objectivity published a very nice, accurate article that shows hunters and hunting, and by extension gun ownership, in a very positive light.

My point was to encourage you, dear colleagues, to both read the article (you already knew everything in it) and to circulate it in your circles of friends and acquaintances.

Excellent article (how often does that happen?) and well worth forwarding to the ignorant and otherwise opinionated. Thankyou for posting it!
