In the summer of ‘08 Mike Campbell shared in detail his research on producing the perfect spreader load. It, and apparently, all his posts have been deleted. Anyone have a copy of his original report that you could share with the rest of us? |

I know what Mike was working on and I have the instructions directly from Polywad.
Simply put, use a tested load, reduce the shot payload by 1/8 oz and replace it with the Polywad Spred 'R'. This gives you maximum spread.
What Mike had reported was to keep 1/8 oz. of the reduced shot payload aside, drop the shot, insert the Spred 'R' and put the 1/8 oz. on top of the Spred 'R' and crimp. This method puts more shot in the pattern for a denser core.
These instructions are no longer included with Polywad Spred 'R's.
I have included the instructions from Polywad below:

Mike used a full 1oz of shot , 7/8oz in the wad then the spreader installed and 1/8 oz on top . He used a Federal hull not sure on the primer but I think it was a Fed209a 17grs of Green Dot an SG16 wad and then the shot charge and spreader and fold crimp. If I recall correctly it was around 1165fps. He loaded them on his Mec 9000 . |

I went back and checked my notes and he did use the Fed209a primer , He based it off an old Alliant load at 18.5gr GD @ 1220fps and 9300psi |

To digress, does anyone know why Mike Campbell left? |

I see/talk to Mike every so often .... life has just moved on . He doesn't hunt anymore - mainly concentrates only on trap . recent move etc. |
