So, I sent my Merkel to Steyr for repair to bring it back on face. Quality worksmanship at a super reasonable cost.
I received it and a decent chip out of the stock and buttplate came out of the guncase!
I expect (hope) for UPS to honor the insurance that I paid ($3000).
So, does anyone have a recommendation for someone who does NICE work restoring/repairing wood... I'll have to research the buttplate, since it's a 1957 gun.
Thanks,

I can second SkeetTX on the Stock Doctor. He did a great job for me a couple years ago on a Winchester M24, and more recently fixed a nasty little crack in the stock behind the tang on a Husqvarna 640 9.3 x 62 rifle. Did a phenomenal job, both times, and is extremely reasonably priced.

I used Mark Larson for some stock work. I’m very satisfied with the result. |

I hope you have better luck with UPS than I did. I saw the guy throw my cased, boxed gun out the back of the truck, landing squarely on one end. Tried to get the driver to stand by while I unboxed the gun to look for damage, but he wouldn't wait. The case was broken up on impact end. Never got a dime from ups. They demanded a pic of box rating code on the box, and claimed it wasn't high enough to have prevented damage. |
