I am using WAA16 wads in the federal hulls with Longshot powder with 1 1/8 shot. I get some powder migration and have heard of some guys flaring the bottom of the shotgun to stop the powder migration. Does anyone know how to do it? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance. John

I use the rim of a 10ga hull or box end wrench. Any smooth rounded surface larger than the dia of the cup will work. Press, twist a couple times, repeat.

Putz, do you warm/heat the cup first so it is more plyable?

Thanks, Putz. Have been working on this same issue with CB 78 16 wads and Ched hulls. Tried a light bulb with mixed results. Will give this a try.

I used a adjustable wrench(crescent/monkey) and adjusted it to size I needed. Stubby faced one worked best. But 10ga brass worked also. I did several hundred sp16 wads worked great in clear Rios 2.5” no migration at all. Thank you guys I learned this here, by the way.

Just use a cup warmer. Geesh I've been using that process for years.

You're welcome, glad to help. Haven't seen the need for adding heat. The procedure only needs to expand the cup a little bit so a couple twists at room temp usually gets it done.

I had picked up several bags of WAA16/claybuster wads a t a gun show, and was wanting to use them in my 2 1/2 cheddite reloads. So far flaring the cup has been successful, but I havent used those loads for hunting. I was using Universal and 7/8 oz in the loads.
This may not be necessary, but I snipped off the top 1/4" of the shot petals for better fit in the short hulls.

Thanks everyone for posting suggestions. I have tried all of them and they they work great. I also came up with another way - use the round end of a ball peen hammer to flare the end of the shot cup. Again, thank you to everyone who responded. John
