What is the ideal choice of barrel sequence for doubles on sta. 1,2,6,7 when the gun (O/U or SxS) is fixed choke IC/Mod?

1. You are not using those chokes to shoot registered skeet but for fun.
2. You are shooting a hunting and not specialty target gun.
It really does not matter, the center of the pattern is the center of the pattern.
Shoot it which ever way makes you happy

For positions 1, 2, 6 and 7 doubles, I would shoot mod/IC since the second target is much closer. |

If you reload, consider using a spreader load in the mod barrel. |

I'd say try it each way for a few practice rounds on each of those stations. I generally shoot the tighter choke first on 1 and 7 doubles but at times have done so on 2 and 6 doubles. |

Wow . . . Isn't the top barrel for the high house and the bottom for the low? Isn't that why they make over/unders? hee, hee, hee
Open choke for the closer target and tighter choke for the longer one. So complicated! Same as one would do on a sporting clays course. |

skeettx, has it right.
Playing with chokes isn't going to make it go any better. Shoot your hunting gun and have fun.
If it's for more serious skeet like league or registered, get a shotgun that is built for it.
My 2 cents, if you miss with a gun choked I/C & modified, you will miss with a gun choked skeet & skeet. |

I have an Ithaca/SKB 100 in 20 gauge choked full and modified that I use for casual skeet. I also use handloaded shells with 5/8 oz shot. With that small weight of pellets, it's my belief that concentrating the cloud helps with breaks. I shoot low-gun start and have no problem going straight with that combination.
But it's all a matter of practice. |

Hi, thanks all for the feedback. Yes Skeetx pretty much nailed it. Fact of the matter is, I asked the question because I wasn’t able to tell any difference between which barrel I used! So that pretty much settles things - it really doesn’t matter. And yes, I use dedicated skeet guns for registered shoots, but the boys and I enjoy using our field guns for informal skeet.
Thanks
