Happy New Year to all!
I haven't shipped a gun in years but need to send my AYA for repairs.
What shipping method have you had the best luck with?
FedEx, UPS, and USPS are all close to me.
Thank you in advance!

I don’t know that there is a best. I’ve used usps, and ups and never had a problem, but I’ve heard of nightmares about all of them. Think it’s the luck of the draw.[/u]

If it's my shotgun UPS. I have had several shipped to me with never a problem. When I have shipped gun stuff, I always go to a UPS Customer Center and not a UPS Store. Never a single issue.

+1 I have always used UPS but have gone to a Customer Center.

I would also suggest asking the person on the receiving end who they might recommend. They may have a preference for whatever reason.

Regards,
Chuck

That's interesting Mark . When I went to send the Davis to Byrddog , I went to UPS main center . The last question they asked was : is this a gun by the way , then refused to ship . Went to a store on the other side of me and out it went .... If I take things to my local USPS , they are horrified and threaten everything up to the FBI !!! I go to a local FED EX , the girl is a target shooter and she falls all over us to accommodate ! Go figure !

FEDEX for me too. UPS wanted me to unpack the gun so they could ensure it was unloaded. Went to FEDEX and the gun was shipped no hassle. FEDEX asked for my FFL a couple of times when shipping a customer's gun to a residential address, which was no problem as I keep one of those small FFL cards in my truck console.

When I've sent/receivd firearms it has always been UPS since the USPS refuses to handle guns. for non-guns/dangerous stuff the one method that I find totally unacceptable is actually two- but it's the one where UPS and Fedex start the shipment then when close to the destination transfer it to USPS for delivery. It's called SmartPost or Innovations or some other clever name. It seems there's a link somewhere in the chain that wants to sabotage the process. Package goes out and across the country, then goes to a UPS/Fedex "transfer" station where it says it is taken to the USPS "transfer" station. but it's taken up to a week for some of the items that I've received to be "received" by USPS for delivery. I don't know if the problem is with the person at UPS/Fedex that is taking it to USPS or USPS letting it set for a few days before they acknowledge it; but in either case I avoid the method. Unfortunately it's the method that is generally used when "free" shipping is involved by stores such as Midway- which means I skip the free shipping and pay for the cheapest one that uses only one system.

USPS Registered. Chain of custody is very strict.

I have used UPS repeatedly over the years. I go to the service center where the same lady has been working the desk for 20 years plus. Never had an issue. She has never asked me to unpack anything.

16 Crazy,

I have used them all down thru the years, I now only ship with FedeX. I have never had a problem with them. UPS I had an expensive L.C. Smith #4 gun stolen out of the UPS Truck in Chicago, by 2 of the UPS employees. The #4 gun was recovered, and damages repaired, the thieves are in prison. To many questionable people now working for UPS. USPS I had one of my guns lost in the mail for over a month, because of the lack of employees showing up for work, the 28 gauge Huglu gun sat in the Richmond Main post office unaccounted for, until certain employees returned to work. As far as I was concerned the gun was lost for over a month, in the USPS system.

I have never had any problems with Fedex handling my gun shipments, I will continue using them all the time.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave

I paid an extra $30 or so to insure my Merkel for replacement value. Received it with a big chip out of the stock and buttplate... They asked for tons of photos, disputed all of the bubble wrap and the FDA approved case inside of a corrugated box... Bottom line I'm out several $100 to repair my 1957 Merkel 201e. Choose your poison wisely!

I use usps priority every week and have had zero problems. Almost always arrive in 3-4 days.
