Found this photo of my son from probably 25 years ago while looking for a picture of him on his snowmobile to show my grandson. This Pa'tridge used to fly over to the kids whenever we went into the field behind the house on our snowmobiles. Never quite figured our why I thought it might have been the noise of the 2 strokes. It got to the point where he could feed it. Had another one time same thing in fall on a wheeler.

Cool picture.
I had a ruffed grouse try to chase me once while I was fishing, guess I got too close to her young ones. |

Great picture of your son and the inquisitive Grouse, love it!
We had 3 of them on the front porch of the log cabin one time, no picture as a reminder however.

We get them at my former father-in-laws place too. They go after a Nanny berry bush near the water's edge every Fall. Nowhere near as tame as this one though...

I call them grouse too but here in Vermont the old timers at least call them Pat'tridge. I called them that most of my life until I got into bird dogs more. My old buddy Pete long gone now and I had quite a time hunting them with my old dog Jake. Lots of memories there of him swearing every time he missed one.
This one stuck around all the time but was nowhere to be seen when Jake was with us! |

We do have partridge in ND. Hungarian Partridge. The first time I told a guy that I shot a pair of Huns he looked at me kinda funny. The locals call them partridge. Supposedly there are ruffed grouse around here somewhere, but not close to where I live.
In CT the older hunters called a ruffed grouse a pa'tridge.
I don't care what anyone calls either....I call them both delicious. IMHO they are best tasting upland birds. |

A lot of the state game departments out west call their Huns "Gray Partridge". I think most bird hunters just call them Huns. |

I grew up in Michigan and we used to call grouse "Pats". I have not heard the term used in years, but I have not lived in Michigan since 1967.

Most of the sportsman in New England still call grouse Pats, here in Pa they have always been Ruffed Grouse. However I get your meaning
