Reminder and some good supply chain news for a change.

Reminding that we're in the home stretch for ordering. The few checks that were promised have made it in so should be able to send the order into Case on 5.1.22.

http://www.mobrikllc.com/product/16ga-society-2022-custom-knife/

The good news, my contact at Case shared that the knives are already being made and "should" take much less than the original projected several months, might be several weeks now. Fingers and toes crossed....

What a splendid item for us 16ga’ers. But I won’t be ordering one.

Why?

Simple. If I use it for its intended purposes, it will become stained soiled & rusted (yes they will if you field dress game in the middle a 4 day PNW soaker and slip it back into your wet pocket where it rightly belongs), or ultimately left stuck in a stump forever where it was left to rinse out while a trophy buck was hoisted up a limb.

If I don’t use it, it joins its brethren in a drawer already crowded with a multitude of other treasured, but unused, possessions.

But enjoy it nonetheless gentlemen, especially you young bucks. The memories will be well worth the cost.

I understand what you're saying, and can appreciate that.

To me though, its not a collectors item. Its just a different knife showing a passion of sorts. Use it. Use it hard. Put some honest use to it. Enjoy the memories of a well use, quality tool later on.

The site is no longer reachable. Is the order period over?

Hmm, not over, got till the end of the month. I just now clicked on the link and it opened as usual. Maybe give it another shot.

B.

Case knife blades come in 2 different types of steel. 6254CV which is chrome vanadium and the traditional high carbon steel of old. And the newer Stainless Steel 6254SS.

The 6254CV carbon steel is my preference. The rust patina and stains are unique to each one. They require a lot more maintenance but IMO hold a sharper edge and longer if done right and by hand. And after enough years of use and care the patina prevents further rusting.

Most people now days prefer the SS version as they do not require much if any maintenance except for occasional sharpening.

I will be happy with either one.

I prefer carbon blades, a darkened mottled patina on a blade just looks right to me.

OK, orders and payments all in, sending order into Case tomorrow. I'll be in touch soon regarding lead time, fingers and toes still crossed....

Total of $140 donated to site continuance, good stuff!

Some frustrating news,

16ga Brethren, as luck would have it my contact at Case shared that the available Antique Bone version offered in this years knife is now limited (40pcs) and to fill the order (we need 45) "quickly" they offered the available Navy Blue Synthetic to fill the 5 knife void. Other wise the lead time on what is essentially 5 Antique Bone knives is indefinite at the moment, best guess "sometime this year, maybe" they also offered the Chestnut Smooth Bone version but it would take an uncertain amount of time to fill that back order on a "sooner than later" offering.

So, in the short term, asking if there are few of 16ga Society knife buyers that would take a Navy Blue Synthetic Trapper instead of the Antique Bone version?

https://caseknives.com/products/navy-blue-synthetic-smooth-trapper

Long haul, if a Chestnut Smooth Bone version is worth the wait.

Kinda need to know sooner than later since supply chain is kicking Case' butt as much as everyone else's.

Thanks,
