Anyone have a link to someone that can make a butt plate? The one I have is pretty ratty and new ones are not available

for a Francisque Darne, made in 1920, some sort of black plastic would work, have the original to use as a pattern

I know yours is not a Darne but an F. Darne but this would probably work. If you want a nice ebony made one you might contact Geoffrey Gournet. He is an engraver and will do some work on Darnes. He just installed a sling for me on a Darne and I have seen his butt plate work in the past and he does a very nice job.

Did you contact JJ Perodeu in Enid, Oklahoma? Or, did you ask Geoffrey for a recommendation on who could do it?
I like to use European trained ‘smiths for ebony. A bunch of different ‘smiths could do a horn butt plate. Dutchman Woodworks has the urethane copies (that don’t belong on your gun, but, whatever) and Gunter could fit either ebony or horn or walnut.

If you are thinking you will find an off the shelf butt plate, that screws right on to you 100+ year old gun with no work involved, you are going to be disappointed.

Regardless of what kind of buttplate you select, you should anticipate having to make minor changes and adjustments to the new buttplate to achieve a decent fit. A file and sandpaper might be all you need but sometimes a dremel or grinder is helpful. Lots of how-to info is available on the web, there are some handy tricks.
