in the current issue of Fur, Fish and Game (the one with the walleye on the cover).

In this article - hunting desert quail and Mr. Rusty retrieving doves, too.

Beautiful pictures and another excellent article.

What's the double pictured with the quail - Belgian?

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't looked to see which photos Mitch used, but in the photo package I sent with the story, the only two doubles pictured with a quail are the Fox Sterlingworth and the Cogswell & Harrison, both 16's. If it was a pretty gun, it's the Cogswell.

The C&H is a London gun I picked up from Kirby Hoyt at Vintage Doubles for a very attractive price (about what a nicer Sterlingworth 16 is going for). That 16 is one of my three favorite guns. The other two are the William Cashmore 12 and a Rem 870 Special Field 20. Those three guns are just magic in the hands.

Dave, you beat me to the post. Yes , another well written article by Garhart. Of interest, is his having to shoot his way thru the catsclaw with his venerable 16 ga--want to know more, better pick up the June issue of Fur Fish Game.
Garhart, your articles make me want to just take off with a camper and explore with my 3 English setters. I do make it to the UP in October for 2 weeks and back in Dec, followed by a late season hunt for pheasant in either Kansas or SDakota--this year its back to S Dakota in January.

Threebirddogs,

I sure agree with you about Garharts writing, he spins a fine story that makes us want to get out with our 16 gauge gun. I hope he writes a lot more and some day a fine upland hunting book of his own! We need another Spiller or GBE, Garhart is heading that way.

all the best,

It must be the June Issue, since I don't have it yet- it usually comes between the 19th and 15th, so I'll be looking for it!!
