Well today I hammered the lake trout this morning at my camp in NY, nothing big today. Met a friend with a young lab he had training by pro and shot some pigeons for him at a farm so his dog could retrieve. Tomorrow morning I'll fish again, smallmouths if if not too rough on the lake then troll a bit for lakers. Ill shoot sporting clays Saturday and maybe skeet Sunday . Retirement is tiring!!. |

Soggy Socks,
Yep retirement is demanding, I sure look back wondering how I had the time for a great military career, and a small gun dog training business. Now in my mid 70's I have to slow down with all this retirement Fly Fishing and bird hunting, I want to remain healthy enough to Grouse hunting and Fly Fish for the rest of my life. Got to quit working on my Log Cabin and my main home, in Murrysville, Pa, and pay the youngsters to due the work. Had to replace a gas hot water heater this month, the cost for a quality new one, with a 12 year guarantee is outrageous
now. I do not know how these young men can even afford to keep their home up today. Most of their salaries stink and the taxes are way too high. Glad i made a good living in the era I was working, so I have a good retirement.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave

I'm with u pine creek Dave. 3rd of next month I'll be 75. Wife and I both made a decent living. Married 56 years. If I were like many younger than me to be married 3 4 or 5 times I can see why they look at no future. In today's society most aces took away 401ks . Temporary worker working for half the wages with less benefits. Don't know how they will ever make it. Their not taught self responsibility and moral dignity. Person could go on and on with today's future problem. But as long as I'm onthis side of the grass I'll still fight for my GOD and Country.

Dave, Went out this morning at my camp in NY again. My wife of 38 years 364 days went today she caught 2 nice laker's about 26 inches each . I don't know how to post pics here anymore or I would it was a beautiful morning. Took my other boat out and she sat in the sun and fed the ducks after. Cooper spent some time later jumping off the docks chasing his ball so it is all good.
We need rain here badly so our streams can flow again so I can get back to fly fishing the river in Vermont across the street. Last year was very good fishing all late spring and summer on small drys, this year they are not running water.
Regards to all, Joe |

Going Cobia fishing this weekend down in The Chesapeake Bay under the bridge.
It's an annual thing I try to make time for. My buddies were on them in the last week so I have my fingers crossed.

Lloyd3, the fish in front of Rusty is a Golden trout. It was a tough bite that day. |

Thanks! I've never knowingly caught a Golden before. Used to chase them by hiking the Wind Rivers (near South Pass) up along Atlantic Creek but... always either got caught by weather or distracted by the hordes of Brookies along the way(or both). |

Soggy Socks,
Hope you get some rain soon, we now are 1" below the norm here in Pa for rain fall.
Seems we go from to much water to too little.
all the beat,
Pine Creek/Dav

At our cabin , the only neighbor is across the street .Old house , really old barn ... 2 of the prev 3 yrs , a female has chosen his barn to raise some kits . The lady is from the Bronx , so it is really interesting to hear her take on these wild critters . She is OK . For a NYC girl totally out in the sticks , she has seen B-cats , MT Lion , Bears and Coyotes - no pigs yet ! Some nice big bucks . The cats do not alarm her . They have an old barn found that is 3/4 surrounded by brush where they like to roost - right in front of her kitchen window !! |
