Having recently moved to ND, I am just getting time to do some fishing this spring/summer. A friend took me for some northern pike last weekend, a fish I didn't have any experience with. Lots of fun!! Caught a number in the 24" +/- and between 5 and 8 lbs. Next time he tells me that we will be going for walleye. I hope so because I haven't ever caught walleye before and they are delicious.

Lookin'good, IMO, the Pike eat as well as Walleye, Headed and cooked whole the meat comes right off all those bones, 18-24"er is the perfect eating size.

Fish on!! ><(((((*< ><>

walleyes are the BEST , hands down . Would like to be out , but can't get in a boat ! Bank fishing is OK , but have to watch falling ... one more week of trap and then over with for this year . Can concentrate on shooting skeet for a while . Need to shoot the rifles more ! ( was gonna hook up with RENO for some walleye on the Missouri on some of the trips to MOO , but never happened before he moved ! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

This thread is a sorespot for me right now. Just got rained out/flooded out of what was to be a month long stay at Lake of the Woods here in MN. Record high levels on the Rainy river leading into LOW. Other friends and family, including someone here, were going to be joining in at various times. But, I do agree the Northerns as we call them here are fine eating. Just have to get past the slime and the stink and know how to filet them boneless. Dad wouldnt even let them in the boat.

Both those fish are Great eating, however Prefer the Silver Salmon above most all other fish. Native Brook Trout are high on my list also, great eating with a steak,

Had to skip the Canada trip this year. Wisconsin cousin recovering from cancer surgery and I am still sorting out stuff from hurricane Ida. Our annual trip was next week, over Father's day.

I have never tasted any fish as good as Canada cold lake walleye shore lunch. Cryin food! Specks and reds are good but not as much as them walleyes.

Savage 16: My spring trip to the LOTW has been delayed by that flooding. Do you have any insight as to just how bad it is and how long it will last?

Mark, I'm doing the same as you...catching fish in North Dakota. So far, northerns, walleye, bluegill, perch, and white bass. Broke one fly rod on northerns, switched to the saltwater outfit and landed a 35" specimen, great fun on a fly rod for sure.

Been very wet down here in this corner of the state, I planned on shooting prairie dogs too, but may scrap the idea since everything is now mud.

You're going to love walleye fishing. Also, Strawberry Lake used to have some of the state's biggest bluegills. It's near you and this is the time of year to go try it. I'd be curious to know how it is these days since I always wanted to try it.

At least end of June before water is lower, substantially.

WyoChukar,

Yeah Strawberry Lake is supposed to be pretty good fishing, but from what I am told, it has also gained a lot of residents. So...........maybe before and after the warm weather? My buddy with the boat says not right now LOL!!
