Thanks for sharing fn16ga, wow, 16gr = a little over pressure, I'm feeling a bit better about my 15.5gr modification, probably could stand to continue on the thin side of that....

He did not share the average pressure (which is what SAAMI goes by) but I would consider the Remington load at max. Which will of course changes with different wads and primers.

Tom just called me. The 12 gauge load I sent was right on the money to what Alliant publishes.
The one 16 gauge Green Dot load left on the website was in the 15K range.
Do not use that published load.
I'll post all the data when I get it in the mail.

Got the data.
12 gauge target load with Fiocchi hull Fiocchi 616 primer.
20 grains of Green Dot, CB2118 wad 1 1/8 oz. #7.5.
Avg. 1177 fps, and 7660 psi.

16 gauge load with Federal hull Federal 209A primer.
19 grains of Green Dot, SP16 wad 1 1/8 oz. #7.5.
Avg. 1248 fps, and 15700 psi.

The 12 gauge load was pretty close to what is published. The 16 NOT!
Both are right off of Alliant's website.

Green Dot in a 16 gauge hull is iffy using 1 oz. loads. Not sure what Alliant was thinking when they posted that data.......and Green Dot is going to migrate past the wad if those loads are handled very much.

It's either a typo or the tech was drunk.

This is my 2 cents.......

Back in 1999 - 2001 I tried to use Green Dot in the 16 with 1 oz. loads using the Z2M16 wad in straight wall hulls. Things would be fine with some loads in 1100 - 1150 FPS velocity range add another 1 or 2 grains and the pressure would spike (meaning 2,000 PSI or so) on some individual loads in the 10 round sample. I have to admit that I never saw 15,000 PSI, but I never bothered with 1 1/8 oz. loads either.

The best I could find using Green Dot were 3/4 oz. and 7/8 oz. loads.

My statistical limits were velocity - SD less than 15 FPS, EV equal to or less than 35 FPS. Pressure EV equal to or less than 1,500 PSI

Hull: Federal
Primer: Win 209
Shot: 1 1/8 oz.
Powder: Green Dot 16.8 gr.
Wad: B&P (known as Z16 or Field Commander)
Velocity: 1207
Pressure: 9510 psi

I believe this load came from Precision reloading

Sounds like a great hunting load. Close to Remington express long range.

I will personally stay under 17 gns. of Green Dot and stay away from the Fed 209A primer and less than 1 oz. of shot, which isn't an issue for me. Or load with Unique.

I contacted Alliant again, so hopefully they at least pull the data from the website.
It is old data, but likely a misprint.

Old data...I think I have seen some heavy Green Dot loads published in old manuals friends gave me when I started reloading, many dating back to the 60's or 70's. I still have the manuals. Now I'm curious to go check them.

Well, I guess they took my advice.
The Green Dot 16 gauge loads have been removed from the website.

Not just Alliant. This morning I went to the Hodgdon site for data and IMR Green is no longer listed for any 16 ga. loads. IMR Blue still is but they pulled IMR Green data.

Why all the sudden problems with Green Dot? I too use 15.5 grns. for 7/8 oz loads but with the SG16 or Claybuster wad. One oz. or up it's either Universal or Blue Dot. It just seems strange that old data is being pulled. What about the data in the Lyman 5th?
