Not that it was that great of a 16ga, being built on the 12ga frame. But the 2007 Remington Catalog is available for download today. No 16ga 870 Wingmaster. Actually no 16ga at all for that matter other than a youth model 870 Express.
Its no real surprise that a cumbersome 16ga wouldn't sell enough to make it worth their while... |

Usually, about every twenty years or so, Remington gets a wild hair in the usual place and knocks out 10,000 or so 16 ga. 1100 and 870 models, all on the 12 ga frame. This usually happens about the time that the market has forgotten how ungainly a 7-3/4 pound 16 ga gun can be. So new dealers and some older forgetful ones stock up on them. These guns hang around both the new for sale racks and then haunt the used racks for the next two decades until they finally disappear into the closets most of the other old guns reside in. Then Remington gets another wild hair in the usual place and the same cycle repeats itself. Hey, its easier than actually redesigning a lighter, more nimble 16. Remington and brain dead are synonymous in my book.  |
