Has someone identified what you have to do to have loads tested by Tom A. or Precision?
If you have, my apologies. If not, it would be helpful to the group and might get some more loads tested? For instance, shipping requirements/cost/Minimum number of shells/all gauges.
Thanks,

I'd rather be using one of them right now. |

This is how I have always sent loads to either.
Precision has a form on their website that you need to print and fill out for each load you want to have tested. Tom doesn't have a form but I always include the same info. I always state what components are being used and I do include, lot numbers of powder and primers along with a crimp depth. I believe the charge per shell is $7.00
5 rounds minimum, I usually sent an extra shell for them to verify the contents. Not necessary but we all make mistakes. 5 rounds are for typical lead target or light lead field loads. Steel or any type of buffered or hunting load, I have always sent 10. 10 isn't necessary but slow burning powders and heavy payloads don't always make it easy to get consistent ballistics and 5 rounds doesn't always tell the whole story.
I send the loads UPS through one of their service centers (not the UPS Store as they cannot ship ammo) and use the label below. You can find the labels on line and print it. They are called Limited Quantity Labels which are a requirement and you can only ship UPS, FedEx or Speedee Delivery.
It is very simple and easy to get loads tested. |

Tom now charges $7 per shell, not $5.
He will do as few as 3 if you want.
I'm sending two more batches next week. I made them just have to document.

What’s a typical turnaround time for Tom? I’m sure it depends on season but just a ballpark idea would be handy |

both Tom and Precision are great to deal with ... I've had them call me about things pertinent to loads being tested , and show enthusiasm when talking . Precision used to be min 50 for up to 10 loads , and they did like a spare to pull apart - not sure what their cost is lately . |

Thank you all, most appreciated.
On a side note, I loaded some bis. 1oz. #7 20gn Longshot Fed pmrs in Rem.sp loads for dove season this weekend.
A filler is usually required for 2.75 hulls, so I weighed some on the powder scale just to see how much they weighed when filling the hull to eliminate space in the sp16.
28 ga. felt - 4gn Had 3/8 felts, cut in half
cherrio - 4gn +/-
PR top seal - .4 gn
I used top seals.
Hope to try some of them next weekend on sporting clays. |
