Saturday, 9/17/22 - UP Michigan, flushed 6 grouse, 3 woodcock. no shots fired because for most of them, I was carrying a Nelson paint gun loaded with Boundary Mark. There might just possibly be a grouse with a little blue paint on it that flushed out of the tree I was marking 5 feet away.

Sunday, 9/18/22 - Wisconsin, flushed 3 grouse, 3 woodcock, no shots fired.

My "new" Elsie is a joy to carry, which is great because that's pretty much all I've been doing with it so far...

nj gsp,

Put the paint ball gun down and start using the L.C. Smith double gun to shoot dinner! Glad you got out and saw some Grouse.

all the best,

I burned 43 acres of CRP grass on my land 2 weeks ago that had a lot of sunflowers in it and the doves have been pouring in. I have been able to go twice and shot limits in about 45 minutes both days. 16 ga Dickinson estate with 1 oz #8 purple Herter's shells. Been a lot of fun. Generally I hunt opening weekend as a semi family reunion then don't hunt doves again until the next year but this year its been a lot of fun.

It has been hot as can be here in north central Oklahoma and horribly dry. Just hoping the world doesn't turn into a big desert. My old chessie would have retrieved herself to death if I would not have stopped her. Too hot for the old girl.

Good shooting,

James

I marked a bit over a mile of my property boundary, which needed to get done. That flagging tape from the survey isn't going to last forever.

I'm pretty sure the flight birds are starting to come through in the UP right now, there are more around now than there were last year until after the season closed. I heard from friends that they flushed about 8 off the road on the way to dinner the other night.

I shot two roosters on the early pheasant hunt for 65 and older ("Geezer Hunt") in Washington state. I used #6 Boss shells in my 1914 Winchester Model 12 pump. Off to a good start for 2022.

salish,

Very nice start to your season, looks like the old M12 did the job for ya, with a little help from a nice English Setter dog!

Thanks Dave. Yup, it was a great way to start the season. Quail, chukar & huns open on Oct. 1st and I can't wait for that. Love covey birds and so does my pooch "Patches". Take care and I hope you have a great season.
