Hey guys. Kirby over at www.vintagedoubles.com has a nice looking L.C. Smith sidelock in 16ga. for sale at $1600.00. No ejectors. Pistol/splinter. The gun has nice engraving, but seems to me to be a bit heavy at 7 lbs. 6 oz. And the chambers appear to have been opened up to 2 3/4". I've done very little research on American guns so you all should make up your own minds. Also, I've never dealt with this retailer. I'm on the other side of the continent.
If anyone can please post as I'm curious what grade the gun is and if anyone buys it... good luck.

I know very little about LC Smiths but Kirby is A-OK. I don't mean he won't out horsetrade me if he can, I just mean he doesn't misrepresent the guns or hassle about returning guns during the inspection period.
I wouldn't have any problem sending him a check for a gun based on the website info and a phone conversation about the usual stuff.

Looks like an Ideal grade to me and a good price at that.
A field grade would go for that much or more. |

Something is not quite right. Ideal side plate engraving but very plain Field grade stock and forend likely replacements. Compare the wood on the damascus pre-1913 2E right above it on the website. And very heavy for a 16-my 30" 1911 OOE weighs 6# 10 oz and 28" 1906 2E 6# 8 oz. |

You're right. That's why I defer to the experts. Possible the posted weight is a mistake. If anyone goes for it... good luck. |
