Well it's not hard to tell that most folks are done bird hunting for the year, judging by the activity here. That said, it's 28 below zero this morning and tomorrow is the last day of chukar. Yes I'm hunting today and tomorrow, but will admit that I am waiting for afternoon and a little sunshine before I take Rusty, the skis, and the Fox 16 out to the steep stuff. Skis? Probably the only way I'll get to the base of the mountains from the main road-the snow is drifted pretty deep. It won't be too bad once I get there though since wind always clears the ridges (guess where the chukars will be) and leading edges of the steep stuff.
I'm looking forward to it, and one last goose hunt this week. What I'm really looking forward to is going back to Arizona-New Mexico for the final days of quail season. My camper is still down there. It's been an amazing year down that way and I've managed to find plenty of hunting spots away from the crowds by hunting alternative areas. Rather than prattle on about it I will just show a few sample photos and dream of getting my butt back down there next week.

back in my youthful fox hunting days , we lived in snowshoes ... however , there were yrs when we might have 10' drifts of loose snow , and the X-country skies came out . Especially areas with more open terrain ! Wonderful ! Have no doubt that is a great option for you . |

Good luck with your last few days of chukar hunting. I’m sure we will all be waiting for the report on how your hunt went. I know at least i look forward to reading about your exciting adventures. |

Old knees and new hips have put an end to my snow shoeing and X-country skiing so enjoying winter hunts vicariously through you. Thanks for the photos and the sharing.
Only -10 here this morning but cold enough to remember those really cold Wyoming winter mornings. |

Garhart,
Have fun in AZ, definitely find places like I did years ago down along the Mex border and hunt some Mearns Quail. From your pictures it is time to go south for some Quail hunting for sure. Hunting here in Pa just about over for the season. The weather has been decent to run the dogs however.
all the best buddy,
