Does anyone know where I can find the history of H.J. Hussey. I have a Hussey 16 bore that was little used when I purchased it and I would like to know more about the maker. I have found some limited information at this site, but I was thinking there must be a book or chapters in a book about the maker.

Good Hunting,
Mike

Look for an article from Terry Wieand titled "A Hussey with a Roguish-eye" in Shooting Sportsman several years ago. Hussy was quite the character, with the morals of an alley cat, but he made gorgeous guns. He also sold customers guns out the back door for cash occasionally (strong drink and fast women will do that to a fella, I hear). Got him turfed-out of several partnerships.

Thanks Lloyd3 and I will follow up on your suggestion. Skeetx, Thanks and I have been trying to avoid buying the London Gunmakers book because it only has three pages on Hussey. With that said, it is probably an interesting book. I may see if my library can find the book. They once found a copy of a Spiller book, from a Maine library, that only had around 860 copies printed.

Good Hunting,
Mike

Hussey wasn’t an important enough maker to warrant any books devoted to him. However he does show up as chapters in a few.

Search the Doublegun forums. Numerous threads on Hussey there.

Mike,

I am based in the UK and have been researching Hussey (father and son, HJ & HH) for several years, building up much data in the process. I would be happy to share some of this with you, if you would like to contact me via PM.

I have in mind to write a book on the Hussey's, as much for my own amusement as anyone else!
