I will probably be using my CZ Ringneck 16ga since I will be hunting state managed sunflower fields where non taxic shot is required and I have a case of steel shot reloads on hand. |

No dove season here in Maine.
Bears will be open, the rest of small game opens 9/30.
First week of moose will be 9/25-9/30. A buddy got a tag, I'm his subpermittee. So we'll get to spend all that week cruising and calling, looking for Bullwinkle, and probably will see a million grouse. They will all disappear that Saturday, guaranteed.
Right now, I'm planning on using my 1903 Springfield, sporterized. Even though it's 91 years old, it still shoots 1.5 inch groups at 100 with 180 grain Core-Lokts. It's having a tough time feeding properly and the magazine is not working properly. If I can't get it straightened out in time I'll keep it as a backup and go with my 16x16x 8x57R drilling. The rifle barrel in that also shoots 1.5 inches at 100 or better. One way or another it'd be a single-shot rifle for me.... |

Dave in Maine: How are the "pats" looking up there this year (not the football team)? |

Going to get it started this year with a 28 ga Citori 725 Sporting. Maybe backstop it with a 28 ga Benelli Ethos. 28 ga and dove just go together. |

If I find a place, I will use my SP 686 28ga. If I get to go south it will be my 16ga full. |

1941 Sauer BLNE, It's a 12bore but choked about right for doves here. Have both 1oz and 7/8oz loads so I'll just consider it an overbored 16ga @ 6.25lbs.
Our DU has a sponsors dove hunt, but that's not till the 9th of Sept. I never seem to get a god draw, but hopefully Greta will get at least a couple of retrieves. |

I have no first-hand information to give you.
What I have heard can be summarized in two words: "not good".
It rained nearly every day in June and July, or at least it seemed like it. The last month -minus has been relatively dry, but it now looks like we are heading back into another wet pattern.
I'll be going up north to do some moose scouting in a couple weeks and will either see, or not see, grouse then, too. |

Tomorrow my “new” Ugartechea 20 guage should arrive at my FFLs shop. That likely will get the nod in our dove opener. My buddy has a few acres of sunflowers under some power lines specifically for them. |

Thank you Sir! My brother (over in Manchester, NH) decided to do something foolish with a stuck trailer and totally blew out his back. He's recovering from a fusion operation (w/steel parts included) and I might need to go up there and check on him. If I do...Fort Kent might be in my sights. |
