Gentlemen:
Sent three barrels off to Mr. Orlen for choke/chamber/forcing cone work. Sent from St. Louis area to Amherst Mass on Dec. 26th. Back on my porch last night the 8th - wow
Don't have revdocdrew and his fancy barrel gauge in town tonight, but with my choke gauge it appears that:
Ms. Guild is choked perfectly for skeet/quail
Ms. Elsie is choked perfectly for skeet/quail/preserve pheasants
Ms. Sterlyworth is choked perfectly for Kansas roosters (gotta get the sterly barrels back to Paul Fuch's so he can look over latch/forend for the in-the-white barrels I left there).
I will shoot Ms. Guild and Ms. Elsie the weekend after this one at skeet and report. I'm off to Russell KS this weekend for another three days of "field work" |

A lot of people seem to like this guy, Mr. Orlen. Can we post his address or phone #? Does he have a web address? |

Its just not fair!!! I am still waiting from the end of November for my 16g barrels. RD and you have both cut in line. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Good luck Dr. 16 gauge!
What load are you going to use (on the Kansas pheasant)?

Hey Doc,
Mike is cleaning up the barrel pits on a set of 16g Beretta barrels. I talk to him last week and he indicated they were close to finish. That still doesn't excuse people that cut in front of me. Mike has done others for me with exceptional turn around so other than poking at my fellow board members I can't complain...well I shoudn't anyway.
Best,
Ron |

Hey Mike:
I have a plethora (been wanting to use that word all week) of Federal and Winchester 1 and 1 1/8 oz 6s that I will shoot up - should be able to use them up if I keep going to Russell twice per year for the next 10 years
Last trip in Dec. I shot 11 roosters with about 30 shells (not my best, but some of those helped some others finish their birds too ) I also shot some quail (13) in about 20 shells (using 7.5s mostly).
I also take 4s and 5s, but shoot these very little as the pointing labs keep the birds close.
Ron - soory for your wait (good things take time). I will, however, enjoy shooting Ms. Elsie in Russell (if the ice doesn't keep us from getting ther) this weekend. |

Nice shooting - If you are saying you used up those extra shells finishing off RevDoc's birds for him I always ask my hunting buddies to reimburse me for the shells I used finishing off their birds or shooting their limits etc...

Well Drew I took it that Doc16 was complaining about his hunting buudy's poor shooting lowering his percentages and running up his expenses. I know how he feels as I have to do that for Joe/Flintsteel all the time and it makes me feel better to ask Joe to reimburse me for the extra shells I used in helping him out. So far he has declined but it always makes me feel better to ask. I was just trying to enhance yall's friendhsip by helping Doc16 learn how to feel validated in this situation.

Mike:
Drew shot his own birds - I did not help him with any. I did shoot one rooster at the same exact time he did - his bird by my book.
Today in Russell I shot 4 roosters and 5 quail - 20 shells. Shot one rooster 3 times hit the gound stone dead and then ran off - after third shot, dog got rooster and all is well.... Ms. Elsie performed well.... |

Ron,
The Grouse are now also sorry that I got ahead of you on the return barrel's lists. I told Mike Orlen upfront that you had given me a personal reference for his gunsmithing services. I'm sure Mike was just looking out for you're friends....Thanks again for all you're help and advice. The Beretta 16 spoke deadly Thursay evening ..."it was Not a friendly sound to the Ruffed Grouse that Bitsey pointed. This Ruffy did not suffer as it folded instantly at the guns report.
Me & my brother put a lotta work into making this little "16" into a dedicated grouse gun...and its been a long road.....I am very pleased with the results. I still plan to return the little Silver Hawk to Mike this spring - for the stock bend. I still maintain that Left-handedness is a special gift. I'm sure I can live with the Cast-off issues, since most of my shots are mainly take at close range over the dogs. Again, thanks for all, I'm sure Mike will have you squared away in no time.

Great shooting Doc16.
I was kidding about you shooting RevDocDrew's birds. I knew you two had hunted together and I was trying to start a "feud in fun" on the post. As I am socially challenged my post probably came across different than I intended it.
Thanks for the report!
