My experience has been if I can get the puppy or the picture of the puppy in front of Ruth Anne I can bring it home. Yall's pictures remind me why.

Great looking pups! Way high on the cuteness scale. If I had shown those to Ruth Anne a month ago she would have caved like a rotten card board box much earlier

I thought i would take a moment to thank all who gave input on my question about the real the differences between the different flavors of Britts. Special thanks to Amarillo Mike and IFL16's for the detailed opinions and reference suggestions. I have lots of homework to do but at least now I have a starting point. I'm a couple three years away from making the commitment as I have other essential demands on my time right now and I want to make sure I have time to do the training right.
My three "American" dogs were all pink-nosed and amber-eyed. I would not hesitate to have another just like them but I'm leaning heavily towards trying to find a French this time. I'm nostolgic to a fault and like the idea of chasing woodcock with a "poachers dog" true to the original standard while carrying just the right shotgun. You guys can fill in the blanks on the shotgun!!
I did notice that the French dogs seem to have a rounder, more stocky face in addition to the black nose and various additional colors. Is that just my imagination? In any event, I won't care what she looks like as long as she has heart, it's what's on the inside that counts!!! I'm sure she'll become part of the family from day one.
Thanks again for the help.

You can also get some good info from the French Brittany Gun Dog Association. Link listed below. One thing you will notice is the legs on the FB. You can see it in Kiv's pic of his puppy. They are described as "cobby" due to their long legs.

Mike, I just have to say I love your tag line.
I use to have loaves of bread disappear, bag and all. One day I heard the pitter pat of little feet upstairs, so I went up, peeked around the corner, and there was Vern sniffing at the counter. From a standing position he jumped up onto the counter and started eating the bread, bag and all. I should have known it was him and not one of the others. Those French love their bread!! |
