I’ll have to be content with the 600jr for 16 ga. It’s been satisfactory for the 150-200 rounds per month I shoot at clay targets (registered & practice). The 7/8 oz load has been a game changer because it allows me to use the Citori in the skeet meets, because 1 oz becomes intolerable after 75 or so shots.

Having said that, I will likely be switching to a 16 ga sporting type gun (if such gun exists) or even 12 ga for the registered skeet shoots. Our AAA club (and state & regional) champ examined my Citori and pronounced it totally unsuitable for competitive skeet, not because of it being 16 ga but because of design and fit. He and many of the other good shooters in the club shoot 7/8 so 16 ga is still an option.

I need all the help I can get at trap, because there are a few guys in the club that shoot 25's with their 12 gauges with alarming regularity. The typical "bad" round for them is a 24. You should hear them cry "I can't hit anything tonight" when they break 23...

So the more pellets I can put out there the better, and frankly I'm just not good enough to drop down to 7/8 oz loads for league rounds!

Last year was especially difficult because as I was traveling most of the time for work, and only shooting every 2-3 weeks was too intermittent for me to keep my rhythm.

This summer I'm going to skip league and just shoot practice rounds when I'm home, so perhaps the 16 will get the nod more often and I'll shoot some 7/8 loads.

I received the 28 Gauge nitro cards today and grabbed a few hulls just to see how things will work.

I loaded these on a Sizemaster without any special adjustments, seem good to me. Dialing in the adjustments will be easy.

Cheddite CX2000 primers, 16.0 grains 700-X, SG16 w/28 ga. nitro card inside the shot cup and 7/8 oz. of lead shot. They cycled the 1100 perfectly.

Those look good. You happen to know the pressure, would like to load some for the auto 5 but needs to be about 7500 psi to cycle her. And I hope you are not using DR wad. Don’t think I have those

I found a bag of 28 ga nitro cards, opted to use one on top of a 1/4” cork wad for my 3/4 oz loads, crimps look almost identical to yours.

3/8” cork does the same job, but occasionally gets stuck in the drop tube, maybe 2 or 3 times out of 100. Cards certainly make it easier, but slightly more time to grab one of each.

Only question about the nitro card is whether 7/8 shot height exceeds the petal height on the wad?

With lead, it does not matter.

Pattern/Chrono it and see if I am correct.

Mike, I find myself occasionally eating the Cheerios I use while loading. Cocoa Puffs taste better. Maybe Fruit Loops?

Yes the lead is over the top of the wad, but unless you use 5/8 to maybe 11/16 oz. loads the lead shot in an SG16 wad is always over the top of the petals.

I did a patterning test using Z2M16, SP16 and the SG16, using 1 1/8 oz. of lead shot. The SG16 out patterned the other wads. The distance was 35 yards, .015" of choke and 3 patterns each.

SP16 - 85%

Z2M16- 84.6%

SG16 - 90%

I load 7/8 oz in the SG-16 wad and drop a 28-gauge overshot card on top of the shot. Flattens the crimp and has no effect on patterns that I can see. Much easier than stuffing a filler in the wad.

FWIW, when I load the 3/4 oz with the SG16 I end up with about 1/4" of wad cup for the shot with the cork wad & the nitro card under it. I have no leading in my barrels, but I also have long forcing cones so that may play into it.
