I hope all you Irish descendants had a good day.
I had corned beef with the grandkids.
My ancestor arrived from Ireland several generations ago.
Luck of the Irish! |

My ancestors were probably "Ulster Scots" meaning that they originated in the Scottish lowlands and then emigrated to Northern Ireland. After blending nicely with the local Irish lasses their descendants joined the great mass-migration to the "New Country" thereafter, coming into what became the United States through either Rhode Island or Maine. My particular Scotts/Irish branch of that line ended up in Western Pennsylvania, likely in time to join the "Whisky Rebellion" after the Revolutionary War. Some of them decamped from Pennsylvania (at the urging of the Continental Army, ending up in Texas) but a few stayed put (my earliest known male ancestor). Lots of redheads in my family tree (and lots of bad behavior), so...St. Patrick's Day is looked upon fondly here as well. |
