Gentlemen,
Our new Ryman pup is now about 3 1/2 months old, she is a real hand full and very dominant for a Ryman pup. Our 16 year old male is taking a beating most every day because the new pup wants to play with him. Poor old male dogs hips are shot, even with his meds, he is in pain and the pup wants to play with him. Our 4 year old Gordon Grouse dog does not put up with any foolishness from Daisy Mae the new Ryman pup, and the pup get put in her place in the pecking order. Can't wait for the cool weather to start in October so I can due more work in the big forest with the pup. Wish I had a bunch of pictures of the new pup to show you guys, unfortunately not.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave

Pine Creek Ryman Daisy Mae does look very much like her name sake in the picture however.

Dogs are great- in fact I like several dogs more than most people. |

Dave:
I am glad to hear your new pup is working out.
My pup isn't one anymore (she'll be 11 in December) and after nearly 2-weeks up here (mostly alone) I am thinking of her and really missing her this morning. I was going to finally bring her up with me this year but the evolving tick problem here has become a major consideration (she's all black, finding the small ones would be nigh-on impossible). This camp is also small and will soon be very crowded and...since her primary role has evolved from hunting to more love and home security, my bride and I decided that she needed to stay home again this year. The wolves up here have also become rather plentiful as well (their scat is on almost every trail I walk anymore) and we'd feel awful if something tragic happened to her now. Long story short, she's more "pet" than "hunter" these days and we want the time we have left with her to be healthy and happy. That's a hard call for me as I know she'd really enjoy herself here. Maybe pheasants in South Dakota in December this year? I guess we'll have to see. |

Lloyd3,
Our 16 year old Ryman male dog Heston is the same way, he no longer makes the trip to the log cabin in Potter / Tioga, he stays at the main home for security of my wife and family, when I am up in the mountains hunting. I fully understand your situation,
I have one almost identical. He does let us know when somebody is around that should not be on our property, so he still has a job, and feels needed. We do treat him with the love and respect he deserves.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave
