Hello Gentlemen,
I tried finding information on this in the search engine, but it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Does anyone know if adding a card below the wad (sp16 in a Federal or Cheddite hull) increases pressure? Seems much easier than trying to flare out wads.
Thanks for your help,

Nitro cards do not seal as well as the plastic wad, even though the SP16 isn't tight in either of those hulls, it still seals better than a nitro card. The chamber pressure will not increase.
If my answer still leaves you a bit on the fence, use a 20 gauge nitro card and remove all doubt. |

Plus the SP16' OB cup is next to impossible to flare being so shallow. |

Learned the card trick from an old timer 40 yeas ago. Many purple hull "floops".
Said to stick one under the SP16. End of problem. No misfires or powder migration.
Never even thought about checking pressure. Figure old timer knew what he was talking about.
Good to know I've been safe all these years.
Thanks Mark |

Interesting that this topic would come up.
Because Aliant has decided to forsake it's retail customers and attach itself to military contracts i've been relegated to Longshot powder.
Can't complain about its burn rate and reduced grain loads.
But I hate the flakes migrating past the wad. So off to Utube I went. Turns out this happens frequently and is aggravated if you keep you shells in boxes, in your truck for most of the season.
So I went redneck and cut small paper towels squares to place under the wad when I ram the wad home. So far so good. |
