| < 16ga. General Discussion ~ 16 gauge model 870, what am I missing? |

There’s a couple Rem 870 wingmaster in 16 ga on GunsInternational, asking price is greater than $3000. They’re great looking guns, but an 870………?
Or is there something I’m missing? |

| I’ve got a modern express and an early model. I use the express for my heavy turkey loads and the older one sometimes gets used for squirrels. |

| Yup they are built on a 12 gauge frame and weigh right around 6 lbs. 12 oz. to 7 lbs. I have one, nice gun, functions flawlessly and is pretty well balanced. If you get one of the originals made before 1978 or so, the barrel is tapered nicely. Mine was built 1962. I've taken phez, grouse and turkey with it along with a few pump only sporting clays events. |

| Actually, all the 870 receivers were designed off of the 11-48 16 ga receivers. So, really, the early 12's were light compared to the competition. The 16's were lighter than them because of the smaller, typically rib less barrels. |

So based on the aforementioned prices.....
A 16 ga. 870 from 1950 ( first year production) would be worth???
🫠 It is a 28" full choke in very nice " shooter" condition. Very nice but
not a safe queen. |

My girlfriend has her Dad's 870 he bought at the PX when he was in the Air Force, stationed in Texas. If I remember correctly he said he paid $68 for it in 1964. He said his only regret was not buying two more in 12 & 20 at the time also.
$68 in 1964 would be around $725 today, so that's a pretty decent appreciation. |
