I paid a visit to the local blood donation shop last friday (a long story that I wont bore you with). This is my 1st time for something like this and it was novel for me in many ways.

What wasn't entirely novel was the size of the needle they used to quickly get their pint of blood out of me...the lady told me that it was "16 gauge".

That's funny. I never thought about that before.

Fortunately it wasn’t a side by side.

It felt like a side by side and it bled pretty badly after the fact when I tried to take off the stretchy tourniquet they all seem to be using these days. I put everything back and hoped that it would clot eventually.

It finally had when I went to bed that night.

Lloyd3,

It seems like the older we get the bigger the needles get! Never thought about a 16 gauge needle however.

all the best,

I am over 4 gallons now but have switched from whole to platelets because of my blood type. Takes a couple hours to get it done.
They DO use big needles!
