Gentlemen,

After selling our log cabin property in Potter/Tioga County, Pa I am thinking about joining the Orvis Hill County shooting Club, here in Pa They seem to have a 1st Class set up for shooting Pheasant and joining would also give me the right to use the Sandaona Orvis set up in Ny, along with their other Percell Club in Alabama. The club membership is not inexpensive however, but everyone of the Orvis club facilities is quite nice. The only problem is I am 3 hours away from the Orvis Hill County Club in my western Pa home. I would not want to travel 6 hours back and forth to use the Orvis facility, each time I shoot birds at the club. I need to find out if I can stay on the Orvis property over night or not, before joining the Orvis Hill County shooting Club. Is anybody here on the 16 forum a member, and do they have lodging to accommodate me and my dog for my over night stays.

Sounds like the perfect situation for a travel trailer. If they allowed setting up your trailer on their property, you could tow down there, set up and spend two or three days shooting to make it a mini vacation doing what you love. If no camping is allowed, it would get a little pricy considering what full-service RV parks are charging these days. Sometimes local parks allow camping although quite often with very limited facilities.

Thanks much for the recommendation, unfortunately I sold my Ford Motor home with the Log cabin facilities in Potter/Tioga, Pa. I might just look into acquiring a smaller one for doing as you advise, but will have to check with the Orvis people to make sure it is permissible to stay on the grounds.

Just got off the phone with Orvis Hill County again, they are in the process of building lodges for individuals to stay in over night, seems there are quite a few members requesting it to happen, will probably be a year or so till the work is complete.
The membership is looking better and better.

No hook up for RV usage at the Orvis property.

Dave - We have friends who are very happy with the Class B Sprinter van sized vehicles. Very convenient for traveling singles and couples. We travel with a 18 1/2 ft trailer behind a Crew Cab F150, good for a party of 3 hunters. The key for us was adopting boondocking methods which allow 3 nights/4 days in cold weather without hookups or solar power. Most important is using a large AGM 12V battery, and heating with catalytic heater during the day to save battery power. No A/C of course.

When I know I'll be camping for a few days without services (called dry camping), I'll bring a generator and fill the water tanks full somewhere close to the campsite. 3 days is about my limit on dry camping even taking Navy showers to conserve water.

Gentlemen,

I just sold my 28' Ford Motor home, completely self contained for 7 days, 10K Generator on board, with 50 Gallon natural Gas tanks, 50 gallon water tanks, Slept 3 couples, with 4 dog cages inside the
motor home, was built in 1984, well constructed full bathroom and shower, it was my Grouse hunting/Fly fishing vehicle for many years. Finally had to park it because of the Gas cost, however for many yeas we towed my Bronco II behind it all over the USA and into Canada also.

I am considering something smaller and easier to drive in my old age, I am now 75 and need something more managable on the road and easier to set up. However I do miss her!
