I checked some of the other threads, but didn't find any description of what makes a featherlight a featherlight.
Can anyone define ti for me?
Also, in a more general vein, how much would you normally deduct from a fair price for cracks in the wrist that seem reparable? |

Its a tag name Ithaca made up for the whole line. They are all Featherlights regardless of gauge or model. The aluminum framed ones are Ultra Featherlights. |

Thanks, guys. It would appear the Featherlight tag appeared in the 50s?? I can only guess at this since my 1947 Mod 37 says nothing but "Model 37." |

662...
There is a great thread on shotgunworld, under "I Love My" , and Ithaca, that addresses the M37, and particularly in 16ga. It seems there is a crowd about to get on our bus. Walter Snyder has two books on Ithacas, and one specifically on the Model 37. Good luck. |

The Model 37 was introduced in 1937, hence the Model #. My earliest catalog in 1939 names the Model 37 as the Featherlight. When introduced the weight of the 12 gauge was so much less than Model 12's and other contempory pumps, that 'Featherlight ' was coined as a nice bit of marketing.-Dick |

Thank you, goodsteel and bud.
There's a decent looking gun with, unfortunately, a cracked wrist listed for $175 at this link:
http://www.windmillplainsguns.com/more.html
It's item #24. I'm not interested in the hassle of repairing or replacing the buttstock, but some of you might be up for it.
the seller sent me a bunch of pics that I'd be happy to pass along if anyone's interested.
Good luck.
EDIT: I see that he's calling the crack a hairline, but the pics he sent seem a tad more serious than that. To be forewarned . . . |
