Well I finally have my new Merkel 1620 home in the safe. It's been quite an experience in ordering the gun from Germany, sending it to Briley and getting thin choke tubes put in it.
Ordered April 14, '06, I got the receiver and forend from my FFL on November 30, 2006. Barrels were sent to Briley within a day or so of that date. They just showed up last night at UPS.
Soooo, almost to the day, 9 months for everything.

But she is SWEET.

Gonna take her out tomorrow and give her a good workout at one of the Commercial clubs/private club. Tons of pheasants there running around so it should be a good time. There will be 3 of us plus The Girls. Very Happy

I'll give a report tomorrow night or Thursday about the experience.

Congratulations TJC!! Very Happy I have had mine for about a year now and have really enjoyed carrying (light weight) and shooting it. I know that you will too.

Here are a couple of pics of a run of the mill Merkel 1620 and a bunch of pheasants we shot today that the Merk helped to contribute to. Very Happy

It did quite well for the first time out. A little lighter than the 47E and it took a bit to get used to when swinging but we adjusted just fine. The first 5 birds that got up all fell with one shot. Wink

Congratulations. But did you leave any birds behind?

Hey... which one are you in the picture?

Bird Poppers---- I saw this on American Gun Dog TV show.
Breast meat. Apple wedge. Monteray Jack cheese. Strip of bacon. Wrap the meat, apple wedge, cheese in the bacon and bake on a flat sheet at 350 for 20 mins. I haven't tried it yet, but superbowl snack time is coming up so I thought I'd share.

Thanks for the info, I'll give them a try.

I'm the good looking slim type in the middle. Yea right. But that's me.

Plenty of birds left there. We proably saw another 150-200 birds that we couldn't get shots at. They were running like bunnies and flushing 100 yds in front.
The place had a 800 bird release on Sat. Other than predators, there were only a couple members there over the weekend and shot less than 50 birds. No one hunted Mon and Tues so in addition to what was stocked all year, there was a good supply of fresh birds.
Cover is tough, area is big and the birds can cause a pointing dog to go nuts. Smile

Very nice! Did you shoot those birds at G&H? It looks like it from the pictures. A very nice facility. I have shot clays there a few times, but never hunted it. I was fitted for a gun a couple of years ago and had a hard time concentrating due to all the pheasants walking around.

bigkev,

Bingo. You guessed it. It was our 3rd trip there this year with 2 more planned. Very Happy
Being that it's only 10 minutes from my house it causes an addiction. I'm drawn to their driveway when ever I can. Wink

TJC, where abouts is G&H located, also is it a private club? Need to find a place to train/hunt my young setter, since there are no more wild pheasants in Pa. like there used to be. Endangered now.
