Has anyone ever given their arthritic dogs Aleve? If I ask my vet, she'll just want to prescribe something expensive. The dog currently gets a coated asperin and glucosamine/chondroitin. This works better than prescriptions.
P.S. my dog only retrieves birds shot with a 16 ga. so I think I can ask on this forum. |

Thanks Rev. Like I said, I'm giving him the coated asperin and the Glucosamin/chondroitin (liver flavored). This combination works light years better than the prescriptiom deramaxx. And it's anput $100.00 per month cheaper.
I just switched myself from Advil to Aleve as I think it works better for me. (Doggy and daddy both have bad hips). So, now I know.
Is there anything else you could recommend for me to give him? |

PGG, your catching on. Long as you include 16ga in the post someplace, your covered. Kinda like going to a business lunch/dinner/"confrence". You just need to click your heels together 3 times and say whatever your product is, and it's a write off.
Hows the glusomien stuff work? my chiro guys says I should take it for my F***ed knee and that it works really good on dogs? |

I like it. I use the stuff from Ameri-fit. Most of the others don't have the maximum recommended dose. Ameri-fit does. It comes in powder and wafers. Orange flavored. The powder tastes like Tang. Interestingly enough, not bad with milk either. (Just make sure you're holding your 16 ga. when you drink it). |

So sorry about that. I suffer an occasional Brain-freeze.
Ameri-fit for me. Something liver flavored from "Petsmart" for the dog. Petsmart is a Pet super store. I don't know if they are national, or more regional. Ameri-fit is in Ct. I order direct. That usually saves me 1/3 over the local vitamin/supplement store.
We both dip into the same asperin bottle. I originally thought that was too much, but haven't seen anything to concern me. |

You guys are just all getting old. Before anything happens to you all, I think you should send me all your 16ga guns. And any others you might have sitting around.
Rimadyl (sp?) works well on the dogs. But you have to be careful as prolonged extensive use can affect their liver. Your Vet should be able to prescribe it and it's not that bad.
I used it for my old Drahthaar before she passed whenever I hunted her and noticed limping etc. It's like a strong aspirin for dogs. |

Dave said he was slipping it into your drinks at the farm, you being old and what not. |

Hey TJC... I'm not getting old. I'm just falling apart. As far as the old guns go, just send over your shopping list and I'll think about it .... |

Mrs./Dr. LiverTick, DVM has confirmed the Rev's statement. Stick with aspirin or meds the doggie-doc prescribes. |

I guess I get to keep the 2 1/2" 12 ga. Lindner Daly. You guys spoil me.
You guys need anything else? Land rover? Vests? Land? (New school- taxes just went up,up,up).
Do me one favor though, put a mirror under my nostrils before you throw dirt on top of me. |

I also give my pups a fish oil cap a couple of times a day. My dogs think they are treats and beg for them. Some of the fish oil studies show a reduction in over all inflamation, so might give it a try (Human studies). It helps with skin conditions during dry weather, and is often recommended by vets for that reason. If they won't take them as treats, then just mix in to food.
There is a comercial verion of supplement called "Flame-out", which is an engineered fish oil supplement with higher concentrations of the anti-inflamination fats than normal fish oil contains. It can be found out there on the entire web. I have some friends with knee/hip problems, and they swear by the stuff.
Best of luck |

I'll try the flame out , thanks
PGG if you'd have given up the fact that there was a Daly, I'd have been all over it. But don't send collector stuff, cause I'm just gonna drag it thru the woods and fields shootin stuff |
