Last night I had the chance to pick up a 1200 16ga plain barrel IC for $140. It is in fair condition but nothing to brag about. My question for the rest of you is do any of you have a 1200 16ga? If so how do you like it? How do they compare to a model 12 in quality. I know the model 12 is worth a lot more money.

Thanks

My christmas present, in 1976, was a win 1300 12ga w/ winchockes, can't tell you how many muddy rice field levees that thing sat on. Killed many a greenhead w/ 2 3/4 Super XX buffered 4's.

The 1200's I've seen are very similar, sans the tubes. Kind of a chunky gun, but very utilitarian. How can you go wrong for $160.

Oh, I forgot. IMO, no comparison to a M12 with regard to action and handling charecteristics.

Model 12s are not as expensive as you might think. Particularly if you are lucky enough to find one with the omnipresent Polychoke (as it takes the gun out of the collector category and into the user category).

Lately it seems as if every gun store and pawn shop has a Model 12 (M12) for sale, I suspect it has something to do with the passing of a generation of shooters who made the Mod the best repeater ever.

I have fired but never owned a M12. That is about to change, and yes, it will have a polychoke on it! The one I have located describes as nearly 100% (save for the Polychoke) and I will own it for just a bit over $400. While this one is in 12ga, the 16ga is really the crown jewel as it is built on the 20ga frame. It was in my search for a M12 16ga that I found the 12ga. So not exactly an impulse buy, but one I didn't plan on and yet didn't want to pass up. Anyone else ever bought a gun while hunting another one?

same here. Ihave to recall one of my ex-wives comments about going into a store and shoppng:

"How do i know what i want until i see what they have?"

It seems to fit my gun buying patterns... Laughing

Me too - went to Jaqua's a few years back, to look at an 870. Came home with a Merkel. Cool
