I had to break down and buy a 12ga., if I want to get a few coyotes the 16ga. just won't get it done. I just can't get them closer then 40-45 yards so I went to Dick's and picked up a Mossberg 535 ATS turkey gun. It's got a 22" barrel with fiber optic sights, camo and a extra 28" barrel for $299. The gun only weights 6.5 pounds so I don't think I'll be shooting any 3 1/2" shells. I ordered some Federal 3" mag #4 buck and I better remember not to have my back leaning against the trunk of a tree when I fire.

I do have a .223 but many of the areas I hunt are shotgun only. Also, in some of the other areas to much brush. If the brush isn't to thick I use a 357 carbine with 125gr. sp's. I want to thin out the coyotes in the shotgun only area to help bring back the small game numbers. With no trapping or rifles the predators have over populated.

Matt
I use a rifled 20ga(on a Encore frame) with the juiced up gold partions good out over 150yds with just about no drop. 2x7 lupold varix 3 for optics Good cheater gun to by pass the shotgun only laws. Heck I even carry it in Me and Nh as most of the shots aren't much over 100yrds anyhow

The "Dead coyote" loads from Hevi-shot work great. I killed a couple with the load one at 65 yards. Its loaded with tungsten T's. By the reaction from the coyote I think they would work out beyond 65 yards the varmit was stoned.

I used to think that way until someone told me otherwise.

Hmm,.... Let me get this straight. 6.5 pound gun + 3.5 inch 12 ga shell. Matt, all I can say is don't be wearing roller skates when you fire one of those puppies. You'll get arrested for speeding in the county behind you. Rolling Eyes

I'm staying away from the 3 1/2" mags, if the coyote needs a shell that big I'm going to quietly sneak away. I don't live in the liberal east but one of the counties near KC is shotgun only. I enjoy calling them in but I'm glad I don't smoke after blowing that call for several sets it gets to be work. It's a good way for me and my French Britt. to get some exercise in the off season. I think she is good luck both coyotes I called in this year she was with me. I lay her next to me and make her stay if the coyote spots her he must figure something caught the rabbit maybe I can steal it.
