Sorry for your loss. The lonleyness is the worst but in time you will recall memories and smile. Lets face it what option do we have? Life without dogs is not an option. So going through the tuff times is worth it. Remember, recall and celebrate that wonderful loyal companion.

Terribly sorry, Jig. The memories will last the rest of your life, though. I'll give Lucy an extra pat when I get home tonight.

Sorry for delayed thanks, but I've been pretty deep into life's demands lately. I greatly appreciate everyone's comments and condolences. Until you need it (support from folks) you don't realize how important it is. Your support here helped me through this time better than you know.

Again, that quality of people on this site always becomes apparent when the chips are down, or up.

Thanks all,

Jig

Jig-A very sincere but late condolences. I foolishly tried to change my email address the evening of your post, this is the first time I have been able to log in since. I dread the grevious day when I have to part with mine. The Doggie flag flies at half mast on the canine condo, She hunts the coverts and fields where the birds always hold. A Sincere We hurt for You from Chet, Sam the Dingo Dog, Freck the Freeloader and Chrissie the Bird Queen. Sad Sad Sad Sad

Very sorry for your loss....like many I've been there. After reading the feedback you received, it seems apparent, that for being a bunch of 'knuckle dragging, testosterone laden, gun nuts' we seem to be pretty empathetic and articulate about 'love, loss, and pain'! I thank the heavens for it too....thought I was the only wimp out there.

Jig. I probaly should have posted earlier. I had to put down one of my dogs this year because of cancer. This was the second one in 5 years. Both black labs. DJ was the last ones name. I named my new pup after him. 40 years of training dogs has made me realize that they train us and we just ride along. I can still see him when I was sitting on the shore of a beaver flowage. He would look up at me waiting and then when he heard ducks flying he would watch the sky. He was not forgiving if you missed, but don't wound one because he would stay on that bird all day. I feel for that loss and hoprfully you'll get one to take it 's place. To me the most important of hunting is the dogs. Wether we use 16 gauges or whatever, that's not important. Jig, get yourself another pup and just enjoy the hell out of him. I spoil my dogs and they love it.

Thanks for the kind sentiments. I did get a pup back in May 06 so I do have a heckuva bird dog. I anticipated her death as she's been in fragile health for a couple years in her old age. Still, its always the single most difficult thing in associating with her kind we ever face. Its always unbelievably sad to lose such a loyal friend whether it be human or canine. These dogs get to the point within a few years of almost speaking languages, then just when they are perfect, they are gone. But its all worth it.

Jig, I'm very sorry for your loss. I understand exactly what you are going through as I'm sure many on this board do.
