Found this on the B&P USA site in a notice dated August 2006:
"B&P’s Gulandi wads are world renowned by shooters and reloaders"

Terry, I picked up on that, too. Here all this time we thought B&P and Gualandi were separate companies. Interesting! |

Quote directly from the Baschieri & Pellagri company web site:
"Baschieri & Pellagri is one of the world's most important producers of wads. It began producing plastic wads over 30 years ago, complementing its production of gunpowder, cartridge cases and cartridges to offer a full range of components for smoothbore cartridges."
I'd check this factoid out carefully before buying it wholesale. It could be a typo or a mistake. The actual B&P website says no such thing.
However, the B&P Z2M series wad is much different than the Gualandi 1619 and 1621 series wads. It is a more conventional wad with a roomier shot cup for 1 ounce and higher shot charges. The wad base is simpler and the skirt is without any fingers or stems sticking out the bottom. If I were loading high performance hunting loads, I'd go with the B&P wad and use fillers in the shot cup for high speed sub loads like 7/8 or 3/4 ounce quail and dove ammo. For recreational subloads, You can use the Gualandi with a 16 ga card wad under the base. the little fingers should support the wad without collapsing. The shot cup holds just under 3/4 ounce and should work for light skeet loads in a Cheddite type hull.
I've seen Rio ammo loaded with a Z2M type wad. Rio claims they make their own wads Perhaps they are now copying it like Claybuster openly copies the Winchester wads. Who knows for sure. The main thing is which wad works best for the application. If it does the job, who cares who made it. |
