I can't say if I've ever been lost but I've surely been 'turned around' a time or two--.
I use an old Garmin 12. It has replaced the Gunners Guide compass inletted into the heel of my shotgun stock. An improvement as far as I'm concerned.
I really don't need/want a jillion waypoints, don't need color, and can't decide how routes, proximity waypoints, maps, etc. are useful for my needs.
I need larger icons so I don't have to wear my reading glasses everytine I look at the thing and I need to know which direction to walk to get to the truck. Satellite acquisition is usually not a problem, for if I'm in dense overhead cover there is always a small clearing where I can get a signal.
As I age I am becoming a minimalist--fewer gadgets and simpler ones.

Do you have a hand held GPS unit? If so, which one? And more important, Why did you choose that one.

I purchased the Garmin E-Trex Vista from Cabela's. Why? Because the product specialist at Cabela's recommended that one to me. (I have a Garmin on my boat). But, I think I could have been happier. First, I lwould like a color screen.

So what are your opinions?

Hey boss,

....noticed that the 16ga hammergun at Gulf Coast reads "sale pending".... is that you, and if so, when will you be moving into our guest room?

Duncan

Duncan,

How are you? I haven't seen you post in a while. No, that "sale pending" isn't me. I wish it was. That is one pretty gun. It does seem a bit cheep though. That always sends a shiver up my New York cynical spine.

I did however shoot an e-mail over to your friend Charlie with an inquiry yesterday. He responded promptly, and a dialogue has begun. This gun, while not my style, is a gift for my nephew. And, as far as those kids go the right gauge is the 16-4 ga.

Furthermore, I realized that Dr. Wife now earns more than I do, and I've learned a new phrase... "lifestyle I've become accostomed to"!

Last, on Saturday, I told her that I took 2 guns to the gunsmith, before she did an inventory. Now, I have room for 2 more.

Again, nice to hear from you .

Peter Weber

I have a handheld Magellon maping unit (550?) that I bought when they were discontinued. I mostly use it in the boat. It eats batteries, but, has a 12 volt converter that eliminates that problem in a vehicle.

Best,
Ted

Ted:

My Magellan has the same issues. Couldn't get a full day out of a set of batteries. Other than that, I like it very well. Switching to lithium batteries has made a huge difference! They're expensive, but last MUCH longer.

hey Web,

I was in Africa for 10 days, and though internet is available, it is painfully slow so I couldn't hang out for hours and wait for the messages to download. Nice to be back with all the good old guys here....(we need to recruit some young blood).... wonder what the average age is of the membership? bet it's 50 plus..... (including me....)

We am fine, that guy is real fair at Gulf coast, my Elsie had a crack which I'm going to repair and he's sending me a fair amount of money to repair it.... he is a good guy. I am betting that Nazi thing he has would mic out....thinking you let Dr Wife get the best of you on that one....

...good to hear from you, you keep me laffin', you're a good egg like the rest of this crew....

I sure am itching to get out and shoot a little, especially my new Yankees, but I got parts of them scattered hither and yon being modified to suit (er, shoot).....

don't go changin', Herr Veber,

Duncan

PS.... gee, can I be your nephew, too? Chuckie has a couple English 16's and if you are feeling buyful and since you can hardly get away with rat-holing anything chez vous anymore, I could always guard a few out here for you, hey trust me... (you know what "trust me" means in L.A., don't you....?)

Glad you're back Duncan. When are you going to post some photos?

Did you fly via New York, JFK Airport? Next time, let me know, and if schedules permit, I'll meet you and buy you a drink.

"Trust me"? It means the same thing in New york.
