Fred, I have heard it said that they did, but I've never been able to confirm that. My 1940 Shooters Bible does not show a straight grip option.

Larry, the reason I asked was that about 2yrs ago I almost bought one in 16 with a straight grip that sure looked factory to me. I got a Fox B in 20 ga. that day, went back a week later and the 24 was gone. A lesson was learned that time. Sad

I have always liked 24's , my dad's 12 ga. was the first one I ever shot, he carried it for years and was absolute death on pheasants and quail. I shot it quite a bit as a 10-12 year old kid and never had a problem with the thickness, weight, or banging my middle finger. And my little sister could shoot it better than me. ( She can probably still outshoot me with a pistol, she was at the top of her class in her fed. law enforcement class.) Dad's 12ga. was a 26" ic/m, I've seen very few of these also.
When I bought my 24 I got a 16 ga. and am very happy with it. Killed the first two (and only) roosters I got to shoot at with it this past season.
All this talk about clunkiness got me to go check a few of my guns.
As for being thick in the wrist:
it is 1/8" larger in circumference than my 311 16 ga with a fajen replacement stock (beautiful piece of wood, if it wasn't cut to fit a 311 it would be worth more than the gun)
it is 1/16" smaller than my standard A5 16.
it is 1/8" smaller than my Light 12
it is 1/8" smaller than my Lanber 12 ga o/u.
it is 1/8" larger than my High Standard 12 ga. pump
I don't have a decent scale but I got out the bathroom scale and it is about the same weight as my 311, lighter than the 2 Brownings and the High Standard and about the same as my Lanber.

I have heard that straight stocks were available, and have seen two of them advertised, one was a rather crude "gripoplasty" and the other one is at wildwoodguns.com for $1850.00 Shocked might be the real thing Rolling Eyes

Thought I would post a link to some pictures of the Model 24 in the title of this post and see what you guys think before I commit. As a reminder, it is 16 ga with 28" Mod/Full. The stock has an extra spacer but L.O.P measures 14" to the end of the wood stock...like 15" total (previous owner is like 6'4"). The $500 is firm.

What do you think??

Thanks, JT

Nice looking piece of wood! Personally I don't think that price is out of line at all if it's tight and you like the gun. Not many $500 16's out there; I gotta say at that price I'd buy it!

You can look a long time and not find a nicer one for any less. I'd say it's priced perhaps a little low from what I'v seen lately on the smaller gauge guns. the 12's can still be bought for less, but the 16's and 20's are getting high.

I'd jump on it. I'm about to buy one myself that's a few bucks less, but it's in a little less condition also.

Re: the straight grip stocks. I don't think any actually came from the factory that way, but they are very easy to modify. I did one myself a few years back because a previous owner had take the initiative to carve his initials in the bottom of the pistol grip. They handle well with the straight grip and the double triggers.

Yes, I'm buying it!! I have a friend in the town where the gun is so he is going to go and make the transaction for me. May be a while before it reaches my hands, but I'll own it. Serial number 208xx puts it around 1941 I think? Looking forward to getting it!!
