Hello Brit:

Sell the thing and buy lots of componets , load lots of shells, do some testing on your own and find out how and what to shoot .

Start with some loads in 3/4 OZ of small shot at high velocity and go shoot some big birds with it, an come back and tell me how they work , Your eyes will become wider and your resolve greater.

Dear Chas,

Just tonite, I finally got the data from Lee telling me which bushing dispenses 30 gr of Longshot....I've got my BP sptng 16 wads, and I started building some off your recipe you sent me for the 1 oz 7 1/2's at 1500 fps (using copper plate).....so can you send me some dope on the 3/4 and 7/8? I am still intrigued in the "speed kills' proposition.... thanks, if it's no trouble, would like to have those also..... (I can buy components and a gun, can't I ? Very Happy )

oh boy, now I've done it, maybe I'll need to stay in PGG's guest room instead of he in mine.......

I sold some stock to BUY a stock (and action and barrels and forend) of a stunning Win 21 16ga with 28" bbls, PG, SST and SPLINTER forend (tough to find in splinter) that matches the 12 I HAVE DECIDED TO KEEP, TOO....based on the feedback I got from you all..... I can always sell one of 'em later, right?? (yeah, like that's likely.... Very Happy )

It has the identical dimensions of my 12, should be fun...... I think I'm done for awhile with this buying fever, gents...... they don't give those things away, I discovered......YIKES.

thanks for the imput....I'm in big trouble...BIG trouble.... but excited, too....

Brit - glad you kept the 16+4 guage

jealous you found the 16 and brought it home - again I'll use the sentence, "Oh that, it's not mine I'm holding it for a friend."

Again if you succeed...

Aw hell - just post up pics asap...

So, I guess you decided not to go twelveless. Is this the right forum for that bit of input? Congratulations.

Are the floor joists around your safe creaking a little to much?

hey Web,

these 2 guns are a match, just diff. gauges.... I have had them in 16 before back in the beavertail days of yore (like 2-3 diff ones 15 yrs ago at HALF the price)... but this one methinks will go the distance and wind up with the boy.... my safe was lowered down onto the basement slab by a crane through the living room floor joists early during construction...it was the first item put in the new house summer '05, a ghastly thing but tight as a tick.....

back to the 21: nuthin' fancy there, for sure, except the wood is attractive, but they are just plain built like a brick *%#& house, I shoot them really well and they can handle anything you feed them....I need a gun or 2 around I don't have to spoon feed delicate gerber foods for fear it'll crumble in my hands..... this is definately the gun for meat and taters..... the L C and Fox need the finger food and salad bar, the 21 could beat that little guy who wins all the hot dawg eatin' contests without exploding.....a steady diet of heavy field and magnum loads without crackin up....

Lawza Mawkie Miz Charllote! This 16bug can get really serious. With 12 gauges including a H&H , Browning SuperP, AH Fox, Alex Martin, Win 21,(double trigger darling with straight stock, splinter forend and wood that breaks hearts) a half dozen M12's in dozen bore, and only one m12 in the gauge of honor...I feel like a heathen at the Vatican! But those nasty old 12's have miles of glory and adventure behind them, and I am out of space in the gun safe. I guess that I am doomed to perdition. Maybe just read this website and keep my mouth shut (and sit on the back pew).

Is there a meeting of 12 gauge annonymous anywhere?

Not be contrarian...but...

12g shells are available everywhere. As much as I wish otherwise, you can't buy 16g shells with no. 6 shot at Hector's Hardware in the town next to your hunting camp.

For the same reason I have a 30-30 in addition to the 35 Rem rifle. The 16's are near and dear but practicality plays a part too.

Hi Henry,

well, most of us reload, and I can't speak for the rest of these guys, but when I go on a road trip in the fall, I take enough ammo (16ga) to sustain a small war... I buy the stuff by the case wholesale, have a huge stockpile like I imagine most of these other 16ga addicts do, too, and reload like a madman on top of that.... it's a labor of love..... I killed a bull elk 3 years ago on opening day with a 60's Vintage Marlin 336 in .35 Rem... great cartridge....I thought I was mainly on a bluebird day mid-fall armed hike, but jackpotted (130 yard shot, took 2 to tip him over, Lyman peep).....THEN the work started, and any other elk hunters out there know what I'm talkin about....

Anyhow, most of us have adapted to a form of impractical pracaticality (what did he just say??) Smile

Thanks Brit.

I appreciate what you're saying. And I have no plans to buy any 12g in the future. But I'm not ready to make a "statement" and purge a couple of excellent guns which happen to be 12s. I love the 16g and all it stands for (the tradition, nostalgia, perfect load, etc.), but I also think it's wise to collect a diverse line of guns. If I have a half dozen 16s and a couple of 12s along with a few 20s and 28s, I think I'm still a 16 Gauge Society member is good standing.

I hope this doesn't get me barred from the forum.

Henry
