Brit, what does the 21 12 bore weigh? What does the 21 16 ga Weigh? Which one fits the best? Which one hits the best?
To me, these questions would determine my decision. I carry a 16 ga. Citori mostly because it is lighter than a 12 yet strongly built enough to handle ammo stout enough to do anything a light 12 with upland ammo would do. I also hit with my personal gun as well as any other field gun I own. Its my tool to do the job of taking birds and pretty much, that is all. |

Thanks Brit.
I appreciate what you're saying. And I have no plans to buy any 12g in the future. But I'm not ready to make a "statement" and purge a couple of excellent guns which happen to be 12s. I love the 16g and all it stands for (the tradition, nostalgia, perfect load, etc.), but I also think it's wise to collect a diverse line of guns. If I have a half dozen 16s and a couple of 12s along with a few 20s and 28s, I think I'm still a 16 Gauge Society member is good standing.
I hope this doesn't get me barred from the forum.

Relax, man, all in fun, all in fun.....no offense intended, and none taken here, sir, carry on, enjoy the sport however it suits you, as will I.... sure I'm opinionated and totally biased towards the 16 (as evidenced by my origination of this thread in the first place!), but that doesn't mean I'm adverse to anything anybody else shoots, loves, and prefers.... and I DID end up keeping my 12..... so can we be friends? I also have my great grand dad's .410 and a Chas. Daly 20 bore that my daughter likes to shoot, but don't tell any of these 16 gauge nazis, OK?
Warm regards, thanks sincerely for your opinions,
Duncan |

I could get rid of all my 12's and be ok, don't know why I don't but I could. Only thing I used a 12 for here in NJ was a scoped slug gun for deer. Well this year I had a new T/C Encore with a scope in 20 ga. that did just fine on deer.
I use a 16 for all my upland so yea, I could go 12less.
You should too, especially since you are trading for another 21 in 16ga. |

A 21 in 16 is to greatest thing on earth. Duncan go for it (never mind that Monk you sold me....)
I spit on 12 gauge 21's
Here's my 16 M21....
Notice the Purple shells... Purple is not allowed near 12 gauge guns |

man, that thing is gorgeous....mine should come next week....somewhere on this thread is a link to galazans where mine is coming from...I'll put it on here again.......it's splinter, PG, and 28" 6 3/4 lbs..... I kept the 12, too, as it is same config, but plan to shoot the heck outta the 16 next season and will render "go twelveless" verdict after I do everything I would've done with the 12 with the 21 in 16 instead, like sporting clays, geese and ducks... I will keep both as long as I can afford to.... I have a ton of federal paper handloads to shoot up this summer with the 12, so I'll keep it around at least that long.....
http://www.connecticutshotgun.com/guns/9770.htm
the blotchy barrels are from greasy old fingers, they claim the bluing is good.... I am really excited to get it, but it's too short, so I'll pull the buttplate and put on a WIN period pad to take it out to 14 3/4" or so....
PS Purple hulls rule.... |

Brit
Life is good! Debating shotguns. I can imagine that the two fellas on the home page pic are having a similar chat.
What a beautiful gun...enjoy!
Next we'll debate Ithacas vs Winchesters...
And thanks 16gaugeguy for the extra levity!

Now Henry, I don't want to get you all hot and bothered again, SERIOUSLY, talk to me please about Ithicas.....if I were to somehow be tempted to get yet another Yank gun, methinks it would be an NID 16 bore.... any experience with this model in ANY gauge? I have heard they were the sturdiest, and latest, of the Ithica side by sides, what do you think? I'm interested, and I promise I won't be a smart a%* as we discuss.....
Thanks,
Duncan |
