....somebody put that info on a thread one time, and I can't find it.... they indicated the Federal 1 ouncers, and also the Rem black hull 1 oz. pressures..... thanks, I need to buy a couple flats for targets, sometimes my shooting exceeds reload output..... and I want to see if the pressures are reasonably low for use in older guns.... thanks,

Here you go brother
http://www.16ga.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2410
Keep in mind the Big 3 load their 'Game Loads' to cycle autoloaders. I know you understand that pressure and recoil are two very different things and I'm more concerned about the effect of recoil on the aged wood. I used the Federal Game Shok 1 oz Wal-Mart loads and WilliamLarkinMoore's locally loaded 7/8 oz shells until I traded Dr 16g and Dave M for some 7/8 oz and 3/4 oz specials. |

Thanks Drew....
....so what do you recommend (for my doubles), the Rem and Fed seem a tad hot.... I'm leaning towards BP, they seem fairly priced on their website, what do you think? What's the best deal on reloadable "lower pressure" loads that you don't build yerself?

Duncan: that's a big issue for those of us with 'classic' SxSs. Most light and low pressure commercial loads are about $85/case (but are all great: Polywad, B&P, RST.) I REALLY like the 7/8 oz and 3/4 oz (for low gun skeet) handloads and may be forced to start loading again |

Rev, Have you shot any of those 7/8 oz. loads that you got from me yet?
I haven't heard from you if you did. Good, Bad, or Indifferent. |

I like low pressure, low recoil loads for my English double which will be 125 years old this year. So, I don't think there is any substitute for reloads. I buy the black remington game load and shoot them through my Sweet 16 and then reload the hulls for my double. 3/4 oz. loads for targets and 15/16 oz's of nickle plated 6's for preserve pheasant.

The Fiocchi game and target is the lowest pressure factory load I know of I think they list it at 6850 psi. |

You can also get low pressure loads from www.polywad.com |

WOW! Grafs is expensive. I bought some not too long ago for $46 a case. I like the way the hulls reload but they slice the crimps in deep and the case mouth splits quickly on the factory loads. They also burn dirty but preform well. I never shot a low pressure load that wasn't dirty its just the nature of the beast. I noticed last night shooting skeet as the temp rises the powder charge in my Universal Clays load burned more complete. Last week it was in the teens and I had alot of unburned powder in the barrels. This week in the sixty's and only a few grains of unburned powder. It makes sense I just never paid attention before. |

Typically the higher the pressure, the cleaner the load.
You could probably try a hotter primer like a Fed 209A and see if that helps with the unburnt powder. |

I wouldn't go changing primers on your low pressure loads. Unless your gun doesn't require them to be low press. A primer change can increase pressure by 1000 PSI or more. Not good for Damascus barrels. |

Seems that somewhere along the line, we concluded that of the "big 3" promo loads, the Aussie-made Winchesters were the lowest pressure. Could be wrong on that, because I only shoot them in heavier, more modern guns anyhow, and stick to 7/8 oz reloads or factory low pressure stuff in older, lighter guns. |

....so give me a nice, light 7/8 oz recipe using AA or Rem..... I'm half done with the book, and I love it, Larry, it is factual, based on all those years of notes, very informative, without being in the least bit pretentious. I am learning what works when and why and it's backed up by all your hard evidence. It is a very enjoyable read! Tell me please, day in and day out, which gun do you select first to take pheasant hunting, and what are the exact choke constrictions?
