I bought a collection of 16 ga Remington R-16 wads at a show. I didn't realize they were "R"-16's initially. These are an older 1 ounce power piston wad that apparently has been out of print for a while.

Behold! A friend resurrected an Armbruster reference to these wads, with a load. It was on the SSM webpage 10/16/03:

Remington black hull
Winchester 209 primer
R-16 wad
15.8 grains of Unique
7/8 ounces of shot
1200 feet per second
8300 psi

So, if you have Remington R-16 wads you don't want...I may have a use for them!

Cheers!

Mike

Good luck on finding anyone willing to part with the so called sacred R-16 wad--- Embarassed The money they bring on ebay is unreal----My solution for lighter loads was a certain 20 ga wad at a MUCH cheaper price AND readily avaliable--

Thanks Hoa! I doubt I'll purchase any more of them! Too bad, though...another load that doesn't need filler and spacers is hard to find. I have been using a Fiocchi hull load, but the hulls don't seem to last very long. Mike

You can make that same load with the SP16 wads. You just have to shim up the shot cup a card / two. R16 and SP16 are the same accept the SP16 has a bigger shot cup for the 1 1/8 oz. I have loaded this load that you have referred to with SP16 and 16.0 g / Unique and it is OK. The only problem is the Rem. blackie ain't good for too many reloads. Good luck Surprised

.....that is exactly what I'm loading now, only with SP-16's (with cereal filler to take up the extra space), sure would like to find some R 16's......

nice, light, low pressure load so I won't beat up this wimpy LC Smith (sorry, revdoc)....
