I have a hard time getting excited about new guns. Rizzini, Beretta, Browning, etc--all pretty much the same-assembly line guns. I'd rather go hunting for a piece of hand made art-a nice Belgian guild gun, a little Ferlach boxlock, an East German Buhag or Genossenschaft double with some real old fashioned handwork. With patience you find something with some charm, patina and for less than you spend for the Rizzinin with the machine engraving.

I know---each to his own---just the way I feel

Good for you :

One who appreciates the vintage items for the nastalgia and function not just a shiney CHROME PLATED Harley part , Well we will have to include Truckers as well , they enjoy shiney things as well.

As a kid I use to take a brace and bit and walk the creeks with logs across the stream and drill a hole in the log down about 2" deep then take 16penny nails and drive them in at 120 degree out at about an approx. 15 degree angle and place a dime or alum can or tin foil down in the bottom of the hole , no need to bait the set a Coon Loves something shiney and would place his hand down in the bottom of the hole and GUESS WHAT HE COULD NOT GET HIS HAND BACK OUT , ALL IT TOOK WAS SOMETHING SHINNEY AND HE WAS ON THE STRECHER .

I think we all could learn from the Coon what not to do , be bit by a shinney marketing trap .

Regards Charles

This past November I saw a man on a Harley on the Taconic State Parkway, wearing an orange vest and had a gun case on the bike.

I guess he's saving up for the sidecar so the dog can come along.

I'm with you, I vote OLD! (I thought maybe I'd try to work this thread back towards guns, spring fever hit some of them boys pretty hard for a second back there....hope this doesn't invoke road rage) Very Happy ...but perhaps I'd trade some of my "polished turds" for that two by four bike.... Smile

O...my

I need to refine my tastes.....or maybe at least try and focus....

I like the shine and sparkle of the new ones....also like the old ones with character and use....also the fancy ones....also the plain functional ones...and the ones needing fixed...large bore...small bore....rare, plentiful, cheap, expensive, with history, without history, american, english, and on and on and on.......etc....

Well I guess your right I have a few of each but I still like the old ones better. I use the newer ones for clays and bad weather and save the gems for hunting and special outings. But it is nice to run all the heavy volume through the newer ones. So your right there's a place for both.

I like the old ones also.

But, I can also admire the newer ones too.

Old has it's place but it's nice to be able to put all that you want through a quality new one without worrying about damage to 80-90 year old wood or short chambered barrels. Wink

I think the key is a quality new one vs just a new one.
