I'm not the brightest bulb as concerns the nitty-griity on shells and loads.
I'm one of those heathen that just like to kill birds. So, looking for your input...
I like short shell guns.. I have German and Belgian guns in 16 (and other gauges) mostly in 2 1/2" and one at 2". They carry light, shoot soft and are just as deadly over pointing dogs....OK I'm rambling..
How does the pressure of 2 1/2 shells from, say, before 1925 compare to modern 2 1/2" loads? I shoot B and P short shells (2 9/16 in my 16's and 2 1/2 in my 16 -4s). Is there any cause for concern with these older guns over time (all Nitro guns)?
Also is there a listing somewhere for all manufacturers and pressure ratings on the various loads? If I missed this info elsewhere, I apologize. |

Jon,
Most people consider max service pressure in an older SxS to be 8000psi. The B&P is close to 10000psi. Revdocdrew posted a listing with pressures. Look for the heading- Standard 16ga load pressures. RST, Eley, Gamebore, Polywad all have 2 1/2'' loadings.
