First things first I know squat about SxS's but.....I was at a local dealer and they had a Fox BSE Series H 20ga 28" barrels F/M single non-selective trigger. The bluing and case coloring are in very good cond. the lever is well right of ctr and it seems to lock up tight. The wood has a couple dings on the stock and is a lighter color. I think I can probably pick up for 450ish is this in the ball park or not. Any idea on the age of the gun. Also where and how much would it cost to open up the chokes abit. Is anyone fimilar with the "Wonko soak" I read about it on another forum as a way to strip and refinish the stock I was thinking about an oil finish similar to my 525 any thoughts on how it would turn out. I don't know what the popular thought is on these but for what its worth it seemed to come up and fit me pretty good. Any opinions would be appriecated

It sounds nice to me. Never heard of your refinisher.

What does it weigh?

I have an H series B model 20 in similar condition.I think, age wise, it's late 70's to early 80's.The finish on mine looks to be a varnish that does nothing for the walnut. Having done a lot of stock refinishing, I'd recomend using a cabinet scraper, then catch the corners and tight spots with 150 then 220 paper. Non-toxic and very little dust. Oil finish should make a vast improvement over the factory stuff. If I ever do mine, I'll also recut the factory pressed checkering, it would look like crap on a nicely refinished stock. Mine fits surprisingly good too for an inexpensive gun. It's a shame Savage dropped it and the 311. The B-SE is an ejector gun, if the barrels are in good shape,450 is a decent price. Since it is a newer gun and the wall thickness should be good, you might consider going with choke tubes.

That's a decent price; the 16's and the 20's, as with most other guns, are starting to bring premium prices. It'll be a good solid shooter - a bit heavy, but a solid gun. Personally the pressed checkering is the biggest drawback, IMHO.

Saw--- Its for sure a bargin @ 450 bucks in todays market. Just looked at GBr'k and there are 4 of them from $475-875 all 12's so guess that 20 for $450 is good--yikes Exclamation they sold for $179 in 1976 in an old 1976 Gun Digest I'm lookin at here. You might bargin that price down some never know.
They are a good solid gun--nothing wrong with em. Basically a fancied up 311 with ejectors, lil better wood (grade 2 walnut not birch!)not bad lumber what I see this am.on GBk'r, checkered(pressed), single trigger and the action is made to look Fox-ish! The only issue to me is the single non selective trigger---it defeats the purpose of the SxS with 2 diff. chokes and puts a guy in a one choice world.
Don't see a need for Wonko"s wonder juice ! You can put the wood in Acetone for 4 hrs to 1 day and with xxxx steel wool all that finish will be history. Let dry for a day/2 and start your finish. Might wonna get rid of that pressed ckr'g while your at it and rechecker if your into that kinda work.
It will cost you $50-85 a tube to open chokes so look around. By all means shoot it to see what you have before you send it to the choke surgeon. You can have a good gun for a project here, I enjoy that sort of stuff so good luck with it Wink

I have a BSE series H 16 gauge. Look closely at the exractors. I've replaced them on mine. They seem to wear more then ussual. If they've got some snap caps test the ejectors. I also had to repair the stock as my son shot some magnum shells in it and the stock broke. Twice. Otherwise a solid gun and shoots well.

Now for a really stupid question.....I would assume the right barrel is Mod and goes bang first folowed by the left full choked barrel ? If thats the case is it possible to just rechoke the left barrel and have a gunsmith make the left barrel go bang first there by only haveing to re-choke one barrel or is this just a relly dumb idea

What you are suggesting is a change of function in the design. Most likely you'll end up throwing a bunch of money at it to get those results. And it's not a stupid question.

saw557. I think you could convert ir to double triggers as the parts from some of the 311's look interchangeble. I'd bet a good gunsmith could handle that. It should allready have the slot for the other trigger. Mine does..If you go out to Numrichs and look at the schematics you can see how they are set up the same.
