My L.C. Smith 16 ga. has short chambers - Less than 2 3/4" Serial No. is in 70*** series
I have three boxes of Western Xpert Paper Shells 2 9/16" 2 1/2 Drams Equiv. 1 oz - 8's, 6's, 4's.
Are these safe to shoot in this gun?
I Inherited this gun from my Uncle and I'm almost sure he shot 2 3/4" shells in it. It is good and tight. |

Those shells would be what were made for guns of that era. However, old paper shells often absorb moisture. You'd be better off selling them to someone who collects old shells and either buying new, short shells, or else just shooting 2 3/4" shells (I'd stick with 1 oz loads) in the gun. Elsies were more than strong enough to take it. |

Thanks Larry for the info.
I believe I'll try a box of them this fall in the L.C. just for sentimental reasons.
I went to an Estate Auction this week and bought 3 boxes of 16 ga. and 5 boxes of 12's and a box of 20ga. The shells looked like they just came off the showroom shelf. |
