At the bench this morning i made up a couple of boxes of what promises to be a gd. fast, size large, long range load. I'll let you know how it works out.
Let me know if anyone's tried this one. (Source:Hodgdon Website Data)
Fed purple hull - Win 209 prmr. -Rem16 wad - Longshot 27.9grns - (1) 1/16 Overshot card. 1 1/8 oz 7 1/2 's 10200/1350 !
Goodbye 50 yd. screaming battues..... |

Longshot does it's job of propelling a heavy shot charge at high speed but at the expense of fewer reloads per lb(slow burner)and IMO---too much recoil |

Ouch.... that ought to be a real snot knocker of a load.
That is going to recoil with about 30 ft. lbs of energy. By contrast a 1 ounce load at 1200 fps generates about 18 ft. lbs of energy. |

Holy crap!
Loaded with 5's or 6's, I'd call that a rooster booster. |

The jury's in - The load worked Great! Even, shell to shell performance, more recoil than I'd want all day, but i just used 5-6 of them in a 25 game of 5-stand for those fartrhest away 45-50 yd. clays. Totally smoked 'em w
7 1/2's . (Also took home the bacon from local match)
I have been using Rem's Express Long Range ( 1 1/8 oz 1295fps) for this application but got sick of paying $ 9.90 a box for them.
I have a ham and eggs load with Longshot too and want to work more with this powder. Let me know if you guys like it. I load mostly Fed Purples
and BP multi-hulls(same as cheddites.) Thanks! |

Thanks Mike- Indeed, simplicity is always best. What is this magic do-it-all load (recipe)???? fps/psi??
I've only been reloading shotshells for a couple of yrs. and I can't resist foolin around with new things....friends suggest it gets close to madness. |
