I am posting this for Richard King:

I need help in obtaining breakdown for repairs and cleaning information on a German 16-gauge semi-automatic shotgun. This gun resembles the John Browning design quite closely; the chamber is 2 1/2 inches. On the left side it is marked Reinmetall Number 4, S/N 2459. In the Standard Catalog of Firearms, 2004 edition, there is mention of a few pistols and one rifle and no other data. The gun functions and shoots well. I would like to also know some history on this piece.

Thank you for any help you can give me on how to obtain information on the breakdown and history of this gun.

If you Gooogle Rheinmetall shotguns, there was an article on the in the American Rifleman Aug., 76. Rheinmetall is apparently an military arms , cannon type and a muntions maker for military weapons. Make lotsa different stuff, by the looks of it.+

Reinmetall built the 37mm cannon installed in the propeller spinner of WWII German Me 109 aircraft. It tore bombers out of the sky, and allied fighter pilots feared it greatly. Didn't realize they had time for civilian doings, but then, perhaps this was a military firearm also.
Best,
Ted

I saw a rifle on an auction site last year that was an A5 type action made by this same company. It cant be a good rifle design as the barrel flops around way too much to be accurate.

For dissasembly it would probably be very similar to the Auto-5, here is a link to a decent set of instructions, with lots of pretty pictures:
