Gentlemen:
The ONLY event I did not shoot at the Chicago (Northbrook) sxs skeet event was hammer gun was because I do not own one. I'd like to fix this for next year.
Since this group is known for their wide and varying opinions - what do you recommend
I don't have any major preferences except I'd like 28 inch barrels, prefer not damascus, and I have a 14.75 lop requirement - and I don't wish to spend too much (although I have been known to be exuberent)
what say you?
best maker?
best period (year)?
best gauge (for skeet)? |

My current one is a Austrian "guild" in 16ga. 29" barrels. 189? something nitro proffed krupp steel. paid 1800ish 300 to put it mavk on face and 100 for the pad to get close LOP. Little to much drop, but it's a hoot to shoot over a point.(thanks bikev) |

There are some used Bernadelli [spelling] guns in the past--20 or 12 gauge however. Mark Douglas has an Italian [unknown Italian brand-trade gun] he is offering, but it is a 20 gauge rather than a 16 or 18 gauge. These are newer guns with modern steel. Usually in the $1500-1900 range. |

Charlie's got an interesting looking and not very expensive 16ga Sauer. Check out the Hill Rod & Gun list. Also has some 12ga hammerguns. Thad Scott usually has a dozen or so, although I haven't checked his list in some time. |

I'd love to have an exposed-hammer 16-gauge skeet (or sporting clays) gun. Some enterprising moderator ought to open a sticky thread on this subject.....
(Although, with my pull and drop requirements, it would be a miracle if I could find one for less than $$$$ ) |
